e85 weight reduction?

Looking for some advice on weight reduction in a 2003 2.5i/manual z4. I CAN NOT afford to go the carbon fiber (hood/etc.) route, so that’s out. As such, I can only find stuff to remove/lighten/etc. The weight reduction mods I have done are:

- converted to an Odyssey PC680 battery (relocated the battery and converted to M style quad exhaust)
-removed the secondary air injection
-(will) remove the CATs (ebay headers)
-removed heat shields

Other than that, the car is as factory (for weight purposes).

Thanks,
Chris

Remove sound insulation in doors and boot.
Lightweight seats, remove the passenger seat.
Lightweight wheels - removing unsprung weight makes a massive difference
Remove the AC.

Remove all the essential c**p in the boot and go on diet and/or fitness programme. And never carry a passenger.

Never carry more than a quarter of tank of petrol.

Seats are an obvious case of weight reduction.
The complete exhaust system also : removing the OEM line for a full stainless line (including x-pipe, silencers and mufflers) will shave off tens of kg.
Removing sound insulation is free, so... :D
Removing the AC... could be a PITA. But what you can do is to remove the AC belt, so the AC compressor is no longer powered and thus, it won't suck any power from the engine.

there isn't that much weight to save, maybe rip out the seats en replace them with racebuckets, maybe you can strip some of the interior out, but that's it.

it you want to go track or something buy a supercharger it wil give you a lot more power wit just a little more weight.

Lightweight calipers/brakes, wheels, coilovers...

How far do you want to go? You could remove speakers, get a light weight fly wheel etc

didnt you put a large amp in your boot some months back?

He's got to compensate for the extra weight obviously.... :D

Either that or he's trying to follow in the boys footsteps across Botswana...

Take the soft top off, fit a custom carbon fibre hard top when you need a roof

On the contrary, i think that at least 150 kg can be gained without much difficulty, between seats, sound insulation, wheels, exhaust and "convenience equipment" like cupholders, satnav, stereo or passenger seat.
Next step is removing the roof.

thanx for correcting me. but is the wall behind the seats cant a part of that be removed ? togheter wit al the plastic ellements of it ?

if you want lightnes tear out as much as you can from the interior.

but what is the reason you want to lighten the car ?

A light car has many advantages : less fuel consumption for a given power/weight ratio, less stress on mechanical components like suspensions, brakes, more fun to drive...
Decreasing the weight is a better way (IMO) to improve the power/weight ratio instead of increasing the power.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like I am as low on weight as I'm going to get. The car is still a daily driver so ripping out interior/sound system/AC/etc. isn't happening. I asked because sometimes people know of something that doesn't really need to be there (ex: early 90s mustangs had ballast in places and LS1 camaros had some redundant bracing in the doors).

Thanks again.

You could always swap out the 6 pot engine for a 4 pot significant weight saving there. :poke:

 yeah..... that's a no. I'm going the other way (6 cyl to V8)...
