e85 weight reduction?

But what you can do is to remove the AC belt, so the AC compressor is no longer powered and thus, it won't suck any power from the engine.
That's making sure! Mostly, if you have the AC off, there is very little drag on the engine as the clutch is in the pulley, so the engine is just free spinning the outer half of the pulley, nothing more. However, the HVAC system can engage the AC under certain conditions, such as defrost, even though you have the AC 'Off'.

There's sound insulation in the doors??? Coulda fooled me...

isn't there some on the inside of the door panels? I wouldn't think there is any in the "door" itself (could interfere with the window operation)

There's sound insulation in facelift models and M models. In pre-facelift models, there was next to nothing, leading to the extremely annoying "clang" of the doors...

The ///M is clangy all right. And rattles. Although thats completely drowned in the noise of the brakes and exhaust

I think thats the question- 'track' or 'everyday ride'
If you want to shave 10'ths off your lap times its maybe worth all the effort and putting up with a loud, poorly insulated-'one seater' :) but for everyday drive I'm not convinced the performance would be much affected with the changes you can make without changing major components- flywheel etc (as mentioned before)- however would be interested to see your results if you go ahead.

My first suggestion would be to remove the ///M exhaust you've just put on, as all you've done is add weight so far.

It ios seriously heavy. MOst exaust "upgrades simply forego the silencing innerworks of the back boxes to "save" weight.

Don't see how they upgrade anything really apart from cosmetics...

Yeah, with this being an "everyday ride", ripping interior/audio/AC/etc. out of the car is beyond what I'm willing to do. The quad exhaust is heavy, though because I built it with aftermarket mufflers it isn't really any heavier than the OEM single-side-exit Z4 exhaust was and looks 500000000000000000000000000 times better.

I hadn't really noticed any "rattle" in my doors on closing.

Got the car weighed today (drove on the scrap yard scale). 2865lbs, no driver/passenger and full tank of gas. Not bad.... not bad at all :D

You could always swap out the 6 pot engine for a 4 pot significant weight saving there. :poke:
Replacing the engine with pedals could take that to the next level: a huge instantaneous drop in weight, plus a gradual reduction as you drive (er ... pedal)!

Sorry ... in a silly mood ... :P

-removed the secondary air injection

I've read about a lot of mods so far, but this doesn't ring a bell... I might be lost in translation though :P

What is this? Any pictures/how to? How does this impact performance?

Thanks!

an easy and great way to shed a tiny tiny bit of weight is a wheel stud conversion , looks great to and makes its easier to swap the wheels to

think theres a GB from elite developments coming soon

I used to own a Saab 900t with no doors or hatchback lid and just 2 seats. Then I cut the roof off :D
Even with a couple of scaffold stiffening tubes it was at least 500 kilos lighter than stock.

Well nippy. (both senses)

I don't think you are allowed to drive suchlike nowadays. :(

Oh yes, I cut everything off behind the rear wheels too.
It failed its MOT and I turned it into a BBQ. :fuelfire:
