Not entirely true. Mine have come apart a couple of times while flying off the car at either side during those forgetful roof operation moments. Both times they have simply clipped back together are as good as new.

Correct, and I have separated 2 sets of grey to paint black.
 
I stand corrected, That's fantastic news, Then it should be possible to purposely split to copy, when I tried it with mine (as they must have been assembled at manufacture) I felt sure they would brake if I forced them so I gave up. :D
