E85 Roof Help 2003 3.0 Z4

If the micro switch is working correctly, then with the parcel shelf is in the up position , pressing the down button for the roof will make the red light flash on the switch, and with the parcel shelf in the down position pressing the down button will activate the roof unlatch and window drop ( assuming both those operations are working correctly )

The bypass cable ( Bowden cable ) is purely a mechanical operation of a value that allows free flow of hydraulic fluid through the pump , no electrical operation is affected .

The electrical motor that drives the hydraulic pump is a strong unit, and normally with the correct TLC they can be revived without any issue . I have only every had to replace one unit as it was completely knackered . Personally in that case I bought a recondition unit off of eBay and it's still working fine . Normally there is no need to replace the pump .

Good news out of curiosity I went to play about with motor and Bowden cable and hey presto the roof is working again. I feel it may be an issue with the Bowden cable as this was all I ended up touching, put it in vertical position and then back to horizontal. It does feel fairly slack, can it be adjusted?!? The roof is too quick to be a poor motor just this minute I had it up and down twice :o :| :driving:

The Bowden cable can be adjust yes . Pull the fabric strip off of the parcel shelf edge so you can see inside the roof folding space , and then follow the Bowden cable from the red handle towards the motor and you should see a white plastic adjuster about half way down the cable towards the motor . The adjuster is in two halfs that simply screw into each other , lengthening or shortening the Bowden cable .

A correctly functioning roof motor should take the roof up or down in about 12 seconds from start to finish .

Why not start a new thread with an introduction in the "Newbies" section of the forum?

If you give an indication of where you are someone will direct you to the nearest forum roof guru (the ones that spring to mind are in Bristol, Hampshire, Warrington and Durham).
