E85 Power Steering too light and vague

New to me 2003 BMW Z4 3.0 6-speed. I bought for backroad cruising. While I like most things about the car, the steering is too light and somewhat vague. While I realize I need to replace control arms etc. (Car has > 100,000 miles), the steering seems overly boosted. Is there a way to increase the feel? I have contemplated different power steering pulley or different pump. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

The power steering is electric so no pump. Retrofitting the sport button is one option (though it has the downside of making the throttle more sensitive too.) I imagine the steering weight can be coded generally as post-facelift si's seem to come heavy as standard and I've heard reference to it being done on E70 X5s (I've got one and that needs doing!) It's certainly the sort of thing that ought to be programmable.

While my Z4 has a sport button, it doesn't seem to have a sports mode. At left the Botton doesn't seem to do anything and doesn't light up or anything when pressed. Maybe that is part of the problem? Thanks.
