E85-E86-E89... Again

:P Get both e85 & e86. High miles coupes are out there for around £6/7k and a tidy roadster for around £4k, dada...same price as the black Coupe you mentioned.
Hope that helps.

Apart from doubling up on every recurring cost, and needing space for two cars, this is not actually a completely s**t idea

Or... buy a well maintained higher mileage M coupe and be done with it. You probably won’t lose much money on it

Do you think e86s will lose much over the next few years?

That's not such a bad idea coupster! As long as I don't end up with 2 money pits that I resent...

Its what I have done. But my wife says I have Z disease lol.
Coupes I think will always carry a premium. And tbh a high miler car with Goid history should always be reasonable.

Also forgot to add you will keep miles lower overall on each car. If you average 8k on a toy a year that would 4k per vehicle more or less.

Oh dear... I thought you guys would make this easier for me...

srhutch, that was the point I was trying to make.

I love the Z4C it's the only one out of the three I've driven and since the day I first saw one I've adored the looks but the E89 is also pretty...

Believe you buy the rag top because they’re such fun, you buy the Coupe because of the romance they have with classic motoring being the last one made ‘old school big lump aspirated’...

Ok thats more like it... ! The E86 in question is a 2008 sport, sapphire black with red leather, MV2's, 55k on the clock, no satnav, no xenons. Drives like new. Is £10,625 a sensible price?

Looks like you may have reached a decision then!

No good asking me anyway as I'm totally biased but for me it was all about the looks of the E86, and as mine is a car for special days I didn't want to go the GT route with an E89.

FWIW the one you mention seems reasonably priced to me - now they are all about a decade old ones with that sort of mileage on them are only going to get harder to find.

Good luck, and don't forget the photos once you've got one! :)

Also, the E86 3.2’s ‘Iron Born’... if that’s not enough to push the boat out still further on a Coupe

Not quite, you can buy the e89 in sdrive3.0 guise which uses the same n52 engine as the e86/e85si if that’s your thing

So that I don't offend anyone with my thoughts on the never ending saga of which one is best.....

If you buy an E8* then you will be judged to either....

having a midlife crisis
no imagination
thinking outside the box
given up on life
have a zest for life
know a bit about decent cars
know nothing about cars
trying too hard to be young again (depending on your age)
should have bought a 3 Series

You'll just have to guess which one is for the E85, E86 and the E89.

I didn't spot this earlier!

I had an E87 123d for over 6 years before I got my first Z4 - I guess the E87 was in the no imagination/given up on life/should have bought a 3 series group!

Hi Rob, down to our definitions of ‘Old school’

To me this means big lump non turbo, dedicated coupe, minimal frills & a raw beast that when stirred in anger wants to kill you... though more the //M Coupe than si.

I had a drive of a 118D when my previous Z4 was in for a service. Don't know what I done to deserve it but they landed me with it for the day.

Over excited bloke back at the dealers bounces out the door face beaming when I returned. "How was the new 1 series? Absolutely brilliant car isn't it?"

Me - Most boring hateful piece of metal I've ever had the misfortune to drive. Almost fell asleep on the M8 and had to drive with the windows down.

Gets back in Z4 and drives away.

I did like and almost went for a 123D Coo Pee when I got shot of the previous Z4 but ended up with an A**i S3.

I had a 65 plate 116D.

It wasn’t that boring, yes it was slow but it handled really well and was planted to the ground at speeds around bends.

I even took mine to the Ring.
