Hi all,
Very unfortunately, I had an accident in my 2005 Z4 2.2 SE. I only got it 8 months ago and have cherished it ..... up until recently when I clipped a curb, span and a bollard on the passengers side. This snapped the rear passenger side wheel at the hub and also has extensively damaged the ‘A Frame’ at the passenger side door. It’s also damaged some suspension parts on the front driver side wheel and some cosmetic damage to the other passenger side panels. To say I’m mortified is an understatement as I fell in love with the car as soon as I got it.
Anyway, to the point. A friend of my Dads is a body work specialist and has worked on Z4’s before. He has said everything except the A frame is repairable. He says, in his experience, the frame on the Z4’s is built ‘like a tank’ as it’s a convertible, it has to be able to withstand much more impact that a standard car. The result is that they are virtually impossible to straighten and if you can, it will never be the same again. I just wanted to see if anybody had had the same experience and if anybody has had any success stories?
I’m considering the options regarding insurance but I have quite a high excess, combined with insurance premiums increasing, getting only a proportion of the value etc etc, I don’t know if it’s worth going down that route. The car was purchased as it was a really good clean example and they are set to appreciate in value, as I’m sure you all know. For me, it’s more personal and sentimental and I have the time and resources through friends to carry out the repair over a longer space of time, hopefully bringing the cost down, although as of now, I’ve been told it is impossible or highly unlikely to ever be ‘the same car again’. I’m reluctant for such a good car to be crushed and written off by insurers.
So, what I’m asking is:
Has anybody had experience of refurbishing a Z4 Roadster A Frame?
Does anybody know of a specialist that can do this?
Or failing that, would anybody like to buy a well maintained 2005 2.2SE with 97k miles on the clock for parts? Roof motor works fine, 3 working 5 spoke split rims with 3 good tyres, well maintained interior, engine has split in the sump but other than that is good.
Not too hopeful but thought I’d put it out there

There are some lovely examples for sale. I've seen a few on this forum that look tasty. Glad you're ok and can live to tell the tale.
