this may help anyone thing about this, actually doesnt look too bad at alll.....

Now i see where the tv tuner goes ( id definitely want it in this stock location )

https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/z4-tv-retrofit.194563/

now searching for a pic of the rear area with no carpet etc.....

The part number for the bracket is the same for both coupe and roadster, according to realoem.

I’m not sure where the roadster tv tuner is suppose to go, but the coupe version is straight forward. The instructions went overboard, you don’t really need to remove navigation unit, you can reach the connectors from the boot, in the coupe.

Great to know this is now an option. This is something I will add to my list of mods to do. I don't like where the i-Drive controller is currently, so I'd see if I could put a smaller one near the window switches on the drivers side - I believe it would look more OE and feel more ergonomic/actually allow you to use the buttons with the car in motion and not just the knob.

In an ideal world where I would have the time and money, I'd fit a new LCD to the 'pop up' screen to make better use of the space so there's an even surround and slightly more modern aspect ratio. Spent a while at uni making screens fit in in steering wheels for formula student.

I don't have the TV tuner currently, do I need one installed to fit this?

thanks

It’s not necessary, as long as you don’t mind losing the original navigation.
I would be providing the tv tuner, with the carplay installed. If you want to keep the navigation option and menu style, you would need the tv retrofit loom.

Thanks Baris - that is good to know - I would want to keep the oe Navigation, so will need the loom also, and the modified microphones so the carplay sits alongside the oe setup which operates unaffected.

great work in figuring all this out.

Will be in touch in the new year to get this sorted.

i can see a lot of these conversions happening in 24, as said before this now makes the NAV cars once again a fantastic option and not the undesirable option it became! ill get one ordered up in the new year and document the install.

Absolutely! I will be getting this sorted next year, small issue is i have a 6 month old and im in Manchester so logistics is the issue but im very excited about this!

I have a 2017 mini clubman JCW and which has wireless CarPlay hardware but wasn’t activated from the dealer, i bought an activation key before Christmas took no time to sort and has completely changed the use of the car! Also has SharePlay too which is great when the baby is being a bit moany! It’s so so good! Literally difference between wanting to change it and keep it.

Very excited for this in the Z, would like to see what the reverse camera looks like on the car because that would be useful too

admittedly im kinda waiting for someone to be the guinea pig on how difficult it is to get working, the electrics side of things is NOT my forte at all. :? :? :? :? :?

As soon as someone comes for the upgrade, I will document everything, for those who want to install it themselves. Although it may vary a little between coupe and convertible.

If you have the TV tuner then Carphonics do this for about £400

And if I do not have TV tuner ?

You would need to add the tv tuner into your car. I can provide the brackets and retrofit cable. More explained in previous pages, or you I have made a dedicated listing for z4 owners on my website.

I would install this in a minute, assuming the kit is ready to go... Just eMailed Carphonics to see if they have an installation manual available for download.

Apologies, I don’t think I got a notification to my email.

I'd be interested in these as well please, Baris.

If it looks to be within my abilities, I'll probably get the rest of the kit from you.
