Is that £390 as per Tom's opening post and includes the bracket and all you need parts wise?
It’s £390 for the Apple CarPlay / Android Auto installed inside the tv tuner. Comes with controller and universal microphone.
I can provide bracket for extra and the tv retrofit loom for extra, if you don’t want to lose the original navigation option. The retrofit tv tuner cabling is optional for this to all work.
The system will go into carplay/android auto as soon as you turn the ignition on.

yeahhhhh that can work for me, do you have some smaller versions of the i drive control unit?
how difficult a DiY is this???? this makes this setup wonderfully functional once again, and the resolution looks absolutely fine.
do you have an installation guide for the DIYers?
I have attached a smaller version of the controller. This will be an extra £70, as the kit this controller comes with cost far more. The rest of the system and its function is the same.
Personally, if you are going to place the controller under the handbrake, the larger controller is better on the hand. The smaller controller means you will have to pinch more, over the handbrake. I’m assuming this, so does need to get tested.
DIY wise, I haven’t had too much experience working with z4s. The following is the fitting requirements:
- remove boot trim to access ski hatch. From here you can disconnect the blue connector from navigation and either directly connect it to the tv tuner or fit the retrofit cable. Straight forward plug and play.
- connect bracket 3-4 nuts holds the tv tuner /bracket in place.
- from the tv tuner, you will have a green and blue female 3.5mm jack connections. Blue for auxiliary cable, which will need to be fed to the back of the headunit up front. It will come with pins, so you would need to slot them into the correct location on the headunits connector. I can provide the pin numbers.
- the green jack is the microphone. This would also need to be fed to the front of your location. Usually up the pillar. If you have original telephone system, you can use original microphone, but I would need to modify it. You can then get the connector from me to tap straight into the Bluetooth connector in the boot.
- next is the controller. This needs to get to the centre console. I believe there is an entrance on the driver side for all the cables to get into the cabin area.
- if you are placing controller under the handbrake, you have an easy way or a more difficult stealth way, by drilling a hole and hiding the cable under. I have bought that trim piece, so I will make one to experiment with and can sell that trim with the controller attached to it.
That’s it really. Main parts are getting the aux cable to the head unit. The rest should be pretty straight forward and plug and play.
If someone does volunteer to be the first, I can document the install and share it. If someone is handy around the z4, and wants to come and help me install it in their car, I can give you good discount.
