E60 M5 itch

I agree Tom the V8 is a masterpiece & the star of the show along with the chassis & it's unfair to compare a high revving petrol against a diesel but the E92 M3 can feel ordinary most of the time & I don't potter around much neither every chance I get to put my foot down outside built up areas I do.

As you know it's doing 110mph in third on the limiter so plenty of fun can be had but I can understand why some find it a little dull & I suppose my problem is I was used to a more exciting car in everyway in my opinion when I had my TVR, throw the M3 down a country lane & it can feel epic but it can at times feel very sadate aswell.

I guess that's why the M3 is loved so much by the majority is that it can do back road blaster & comfy 5 series cruiser aswell it's a great allrounder but it just doesn't set my heart on fire unless I have the tyres smoking or i am going as quick as I can & that's an expensive way to drive, I could do 30mph in the TVR & still have a smile on my face.

I suppose it's what you are used to maybe or I am just a fussy bugger!

Haha you should read the 1 series thread maniac put up. Think it's a case of getting used to something special then getting into something that's not and back in again sparks something! Lol

You are spot on Tom

I took the other halfs TT for some tyres the other day & I said it helped me appreciate how good the M3 is to drive & I couldn't wait to get behind the wheel again, the problem is you take things for granted when you use a car everyday which is wrong I admit & I do miss having another car as it does make you appreciate what you have.

I am different to Maniac though I drove my bro in laws 116d a 10 plate the previous model & I thought it was alright!!

If someone said swap the M3 for a 116d I would probably say no though! :)

Nothing made me appreciate my Z more than coming back from Detroit last month where I was driving a Dodge Avenger and driving home from the airport in the Z40, the feel of precision and power was alien to me.

I've had similar when in Florida last year hired a Ford Expedition for two weeks then got back to the airport & got behind the wheel of my old 5 series & everything just felt right it was an amazing difference.

M3 sounds like a better proposition. Most of what your going to get from an M5, less gear box worries and far cheaper daily running cost. Still a bit ordinary after the Zed though.

Forget people banging on about potential costs and if something goes pop...life is full of too many ifs or buts....this is all you require to make the decision final:

I wouldn't discount the E60 M5 it is an epic machine, you just need to consider whether you could realistically maintain one and use it enough to make it a worthwhile investment. Coming from a E89 I find the E92 a bunch more comfortable, its the sort of car that has a split personality, lazy and almost clumsy around town but then flip on MDM at the weekend and its as much fun as the best of them :driving: I do miss the go kart like experience of the E89 tho :D

Watch this short film and you cant help but fall in love with the E60 M5 :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsLQQAYbTZg

I wouldn't say no to an M5 touring...

They seem to be very popular with thieves if the M-Power PH board is anything to go by. For a rare, small volume production car there are an awful lot of stolen threads on there. The most recent being Cheburator who you may remember on here as an ex-Z4MC owner.

Herm, a tvr in the garage for high days and holidays looks like your best option. :)

and you could always run a £2.5k 540i as your dd

Keys cloned? I didn't know him, but sucks if his car's been stolen.

Yes cloned key he thinks. No broken glass or anything and taken off his drive overnight.

Great cars and only about 160 RHD versions.

No thanks to the TVR, I like build quality

a 540 as a daily has been considered...
Even a 530 touring, and keep the Z4M in the garage, but first I need to be able to afford a garage and not sell the Z4M

New rear Super Sports fitted yesterday, insurance to sort this week, house buying put off for a while, it looks like the Z4M is staying for this year.

I bought a 2001 530i touring for £2.4k a couple of months ago. I am getting 21mpg :( and I am not thrashing it, great car to drive- relaxed and quick, but I reckon you may as well get the 540. :)
