I agree Tom the V8 is a masterpiece & the star of the show along with the chassis & it's unfair to compare a high revving petrol against a diesel but the E92 M3 can feel ordinary most of the time & I don't potter around much neither every chance I get to put my foot down outside built up areas I do.
As you know it's doing 110mph in third on the limiter so plenty of fun can be had but I can understand why some find it a little dull & I suppose my problem is I was used to a more exciting car in everyway in my opinion when I had my TVR, throw the M3 down a country lane & it can feel epic but it can at times feel very sadate aswell.
I guess that's why the M3 is loved so much by the majority is that it can do back road blaster & comfy 5 series cruiser aswell it's a great allrounder but it just doesn't set my heart on fire unless I have the tyres smoking or i am going as quick as I can & that's an expensive way to drive, I could do 30mph in the TVR & still have a smile on my face.
I suppose it's what you are used to maybe or I am just a fussy bugger!
