the materials used to make bath towels are not the same as for cars. your car needs micro fibre
only to finish it off, and only if you are purist [IMHO ]
Or if you don't care about swirling your paintwork...

Okay, I'll admit it .... :| I have been known to use microfiber towels :o BUT in the "olden days' they didn't exist, and the E30 M3 won prizes without them  .

Also there is no need to spends £'s on them - Tesco do a "Everyday Value" pack which are fine. Name isn't everything

Quite right and my dad has used Chamois' to dry his car, and sponges / brushes to clean his paintwork for decades and none of his car have ever fallen apart. It just depends on the level of "obsession" you place on keeping swirl free paintwork.

Personally, I believe that if for the sake of a few quid I can keep my paintwork in better condition then why not. My paintwork certainly looks better than any E30 M3 I've ever seen.

:o You obviously never saw mine at Gaydon! 8)

haha, granted I didn't, but the paintwork on Z's seem to be much more reflective / glass like than E30's anyway, which even when they are perfect seem slightly duller.

I have a large cheapo CYC MF towel, and a smaller, pricier one.. both are great - you can tell the difference over non MF and leathers etc.

I have to say for drying i prefer the cheaper larger one, soaks up much nicer - i think the pile is too thick on the posher one to be effective with water duties, better for buffing.

And has anyone ever snagged their brand new towel on the sill strips / badges? Ham fisted but still really annoying.

A different type of paint is used these days, and of course the Z is much newer, so I wonder what they will look like after 30 years :)

I use this.... huge, deep and thirsty as you like....

I have to admit I was always a user of a well-worn AG Synthetic but have completely moved over to MF towel drying these days.

This one is even better. I also use the Blue one for the Door/Boot shuts etc and separate ones for the Wheels.

Small price to pay for premium towels from CYC. I've been using them for a while now and the service and delivery times are excellent.

You can definitely tell the difference between supermarket and CYC etc towels of all descriptions.

Love that site although have you noticed lately they have been out of stock of a LOT of stuff, particularly chemical guys and also when they want to sell their own equivalent they are 'out of stock' of the brand one..... A little annoying

Wierd, I thought it was just me noticing them running out of certain products.

I usually get a large order together every 2 months so I get the free delivery. So I thought it was just me being paranoid

I still prefer not to touch the car, so use distilled water instead as the final rinse.

  This simply isn't normal though. Brilliant commitment to the car, but massively OTT.

Bing and I did a very cursory cost analysis, and the cost of using distilled water wouldn't be very different from using microfibre towels and detailing spray / AN Other drying aid.

But still OTT

Interesting - do you have a filtration system to get the distilled water?

Just received and used my towel from CYC, highly recommended, incredible how much it can absorb, almost the whole of the car dried without wringing out (it was fairly warm though)
