Driving in the snow...

Nah in seriousness, ditch the runflats and if your using it as a daily invest in some winter wheels and tyres. You can pick some up on ebay for anything from a couple of hundred quid upwards and are a godsend in the winter, however I have a audi FWD a3 which is also very good and saves my beloved z4 from the dreaded salt
 
I drove mine up a steep hill in the snow on vredestein ultrac sessantas (summer tyres). It handled the incline perfectly fine.

Winter tyres are a bit of a fad in this country, unless you get a foot of snow. In that instance, you won't be going anywhere in a Z4 anyway :lol:
 
As is pretty well known, the X5 is not great on standard M+S tyres when there is an inch of snow. I have slid down my entire drive with 4 wheels locked before, but with the proper winter tyres it transformed the car and I can actually get out of the road when there is snow :D
 
Zed stays on the drive when snow is about, saying that, the Zed stays on the drive when the dreaded salt is being splashed about the roads.

I have the same policy largely after buying my car a year ago and the first day I took it out on a lovely sunny December day a gritting lorry came the other way and splattered me with salt, not impressed.

It does cause problems though, the days in the winter that are fine and sunny alsoi usually have very cold nights that drag the gritters out :cry:
 
Winter tyres arent snow tyres. Winter tyres have a compound that remains supple in low temps which provides better grip on cold wet roads (compared to summer tyres that we brits use all year). That they grip better in snow and ice is a bonus.
 
Summer tires .... asking to die when the first snowflake lands
All season , some have M+S on them, marginal but generally useful , not necessarily good in cold cold temps.
Winter.tires... have a snowflake on the side, has a softer compound in colder temps, required on most highways in western Canada during winter. Yes , they have to be snow tires to get the winter designation , A good snow tire can save your life.

I use Blizzaks whenever possible , the best tire I’ve ever found for snow and ice.

all weather tires.... not worth trying here, might be ok in the UK.
 
All weather tyres tend to just have a slightly softer compound but lack the winter tread pattern on most or all of the tyre. It's mainly the sipes that pick up snow and make the marked improvement on snow.

All weather tyres not really worth it in the UK either as summers are better most of the time and they can handle British winters up to actual snow which is rare.
