Way to post some pics John.

Locals don't take those kind of pics. :headbang: :headbang:

I was thinking the same thing. Great pics and thanks for reminding me of what a beautiful area that I live in.

Absolutely loving these 2 - exactly the kind of pics I'm hoping to get.

Looking a bit more last night following tips and I think we're going to have a steady drive down through the areas mentioned, and stop off halfway in San Luis Obispo.

Can't wait. 61 days to go!

Here are two videos that was taken in the area between Ownard and Santa Monica. One is north bound on Highway 1 the outher is south bound all the same road, you just get to see the water better headed south bound.

Taken from my camera and I was learning at this point.

If you are taking a bit more time, do get some sunset pics on your way down. The coast up that way actually faces west. The closer you get to Oxnard and Santa Monica the geach face south and you will not get as nice of a pic.

Or perhaps just some sea side pics

IMZ4N, love the vids. It seems pretty quiet with traffic, is that normal for that route?

On week days thats the norm. Weekends is very much a different story. Thats why I asked when he would be traveling.

On weekends the sides of the road are filled with bicycles and cars are parked all over the place. Not to mention the lookie lou's in front of me. :headbang: :headbang:

As Mike says - love the vids - also whets the appetite!

Thanks for posting these.

Now just deciding - convertible or 4x4. Obviously prefer a convertible, but not sure our cases would fit in the boot and we want to get out and leave the car for a bit.

Weather should be warm while you are here. San Francisco will be cooler and maybe wet. I feel that there will be a good amount of fog in the mornings as well. Just two of you coming? You could think about a 5 seater convertible and use the back seats for luggage if needed. I would not advise leaving the top down if you are not within running distance from the car though with luggage in the seats. I like to think outside the box, can you tell.

Yep thats what we were thinking. Just the two of us.

IF the luggage doesn't fit in the boot then we'd have to put one on the back seat. Always a little nervous of that. But we have soke about just stopping off for a bite to eat and a quick chill out and make sure the car is visible.

Part of me wants the top down motoring for the long nice journey - feel we'll take in the scenery more. But also fancy a 4x4 as not had one for a while.

decisions decisions! :D

Highway 1 frome San Francisco to Morro Bay is 2 lane ( one in each direction ) for the most part. You will get a passing lane every so often ( meaning 3 lanes , 2 in one direction and one in the other ). Have you thought of things to do or see while on the trip down? Keep in mind that from Monterey to 30 miles south of Big Sur, we have had fires in the forest from highway 1 towards the east. I can not say how bad it looks, as we have not been there since the fires. The road is open and all is well that way. Before to travel from San Francisco, I would like to make a sugestion. Call for Highway conditions by calling toll free, from any phone 1-800-427-7623, it is an automated directory of road conditions in California. When you call you will be asked to enter the highway you wish to check, you would enter 1. After fires we sometimes have landslides which block the roads. By calling the number above, you will know if there are any closures. If you have thoughts or questions, please ask. I will do my best to help, as will others as well.

Weekdays it is then, I suppose even at the weekend it's not the kind of road to race down anyway, but take your time and enjoy the view.

Your right, If you want to do that kind of driving on that road, I would do it at night. I have roads to do blasting on where there are not as many people. It is very much the time and place thing. If you get wrapped up in traffic, pull over and look at the ocean and when you are ready to go, get in front of the line coming at you and enjoy the open road in front of you.

Mine is the Grand Canyon/Sedona.
Lisa and I were fortunate enough to spend nearly a month bumming around in Arizona a few years back. We have not been abroad yet, but my god there are so many beautiful places in this country!
Did you know that there is a very spiritual presence there in Sedona?

Yeah, a good friend of mine, who lives in Sante Fe (another one of my favorite places) is really into the New Age thing. We talked for hours about it. Well, she actually talked to me, I just listened.

About 1mile down the Bright Angel Trail:
