Driving experience day - take the Z4MC?

I got a driving day for my birthday recently, so next Monday I'm driving an Aston V8 convertible and an Audi R8, I get 1/2 day in each. Quite looking forward to it,I did try to swap the Aston for something else, but not possible and didn't want to pay any more. I'm tying it in with a 500 mile round trip to relatives as well, so a decent weekend away.

My question is should I drive down in the 320d or the recently acquired Z4MC? The diesel will use at least £75 less in fuel, and will make the other cars seem pretty fast. The Z4 would make it a total 'super-car' weekend, but might make the other cars feel less special. And there's a chance that after the R8 in particular the Z4 might feel less special. And adding another 500 miles onto the Z4 will take it to 22k miles...

It's not exactly a life or death decision, just thought it would be interesting to get your thoughts! And how you think the Z4 would compare to the other cars. I think it is as quick as the Aston, and nearly as quick as the R8.

Cheers, Ian

I'd take the zed too. Be easier to do immediate comparison between your zed and the others. I doubt you'll find the zed less special afterwards as you worry. Reckon it could compare quite favourably

Id say take the diesel. Reason? When you get out of the r8 and aston, you ll be jumping straight into your z. There is a chance you MIGHT feel a little disappointed with the zed s performance after the more expensive cars. If you take the three series you ll expect it to be inferior and a 250 mile journey home will be relatively mundane. From the 3 to the z4 will Def be an improvement and the magic will remain! Just my thoughts :)

Interesting - I too was given a driving experience for my birthday, and I too have the choice of driving there in my ///MC or my 320d... Actually, there's no choice at all, why would I take the 320?? That would be just ridiculous :D

Lifes short.. The Z4MC has no miles on it so put some on!!!! I struggle to keep out of mine love it too much!

I have to say I've never driven a Z4M but my experience of track/experience days is that you get back into your own car with all the limitations of being back on public roads and it's frankly a bit of a let down after a day thrashing something that's probably more powerful around some very grippy tarmac. First time experience day like I had I was about 18, stepped out of something not particularly fast (Formula Ford or Formula First at Knockhill) and into my Volvo 340 1.7 and was convinced something was wrong with it for the first couple of miles. It seemed pathetic in comparison (I guess it was though :D )
You don't want to risk spoiling your appreciation of your new car! It maybe that the Z4M is quite accomplished in it's own right and will hold it's own against an Aston or R8 when it comes to fun factor, in which case take the Z4!

Or it could be very dangerous.... You start driving your car like the cars on a track.... I remember finishing an M3 race day at Oulton Park, getting back in my M3 on the road and driving it like I was still on the track. Similar to when you finish a good Go kart session! Good times haha

I'll be driving the other cars on the road not on track. I get 100 miles \ 3 hours in each with a civilised lunch stop, just me and the missus. Need to check if she can drive them too (for 5 minutes!). Apparently switching off any stability or traction controls is strictly forbidden

I've decided I'm going to take the Zed, will be interesting to compare it to the other cars. I'm really looking forward to the R8, should make the zed feel very compact. I still think there are very few engine noises that compare with the 3.2M engine, been driving it today and it sounds spectacular.

It should be a great day. Where is it?

I'd take the Z defo in the summer but would consider the weather this time of year.

My experience of these sort of days is very good but I have always found the mentors very protective of the cars i.e. limit the revs. I've done one at Bruntingthorpe and Silverstone and both did'nt really allow me to open the taps. On both occasions I got back in my car after driving their various Astons and Ferrari's with no thoughts of wishing to be in another machine other than my own to be honest.

Deffo Take the Z4MC because I live in Abingdon and could do with some upgrade parts for mine! :poke:

Definatly get to Dalton Barracks, about 4 mins away from the company, there is an airfield out the back that they hold track days on. There is 3 massive straights there, should be good for clearing out the cobwebs!

If you want any more details on it and good driving roads in the area, drop me a pm.
