Drivers window gap - wind noise

Hey all!

Query to see if anyone else has had this problem, or if anyone has any extra ideas. Drivers window has a 1-2mm gap between the A Pillar and the glass - causes a lot of wind noise when driving. It also wont one-click up, it gets about 90% before giving it and coming back down. 75% of the time, when opening the door, the window glass will drop the full way (ideal for the current British weather, generally annoying).

I've tried the two adjustments under the door, I've experimented extremes in both directions and not much difference is made - they seem to make more of a difference to how the rear sits up against the back and the top than it does at the front

At the weekend I took the door card off and tried to reseat the glass in the regulator - someone has been there before as the membrane is all torn up (new one on order) - was a bit fiddly, the glass feels more solid in place after but I've still got the gap pictured below.

I've tried adjusting the door latch on the body, this helped straighten up some body gaps but no difference to the glass.

Cheers for the read

Cheers for the reply! This was the thread I followed originally before posting, having tried all of these and even resetting the window memory which was posted by someone else in another thread, still no luck.

I should have checked the regulator to see if it was original while I had the door card off, but perhaps I'll order a genuine and get an indy to install alongside the new membrane.

They are adjustable, my window regulator failed had it replaced and the window didnt quite meet so they adjusted it.

Cant say how but you can.

Just ordered some on amazon, coming tomorrow, so I shall report back!
I applied it liberally across the full rubber seal - does look in good condition now at least! However I've still got the wind noise and whistling, 100% to do with that front gap as I could listen close while driving along. Visible from the inside that there's a gap, so it's just not sitting correctly.

Membrane arrived so I'll get an Indy to take a look at the window and get the membrane replaced also. Will report back once/if resolved

I've no idea how to fix it, but I know how much noise even a small gap can generate.

I was coming home from Scotland last year and had opened the passenger door to put something on the seat. As soon as I got above 70 on the Motorway it started and when I went faster it turned into a howl. I had to take a pit-stop at some services and walked all around the car looking for some sort of damage or loose trim, but couldn't find anything so I carried on.

It was really annoying, so as a last resort I tried raising the passenger window - bingo, problem solved!

The window must have dropped a few mm when I opened the door, but not gone back up when I closed it.

Anyway knowing how noisy it can get good luck getting it sorted.

If you can remove the outer door handle with the window fully raised you will see the tail of the bolt that clamps the glass to the regulator frame. The tail of this bolt has a torx end to it. Remembering that as you are operating from the other end of the bolt it is essentially a lefthand thread, loosen the bolt (clockwise) and you will find that you can move the rear of the glass up and down but also move the glass forwards and backwards. A little experimentation should soon have the glass aligned.
An owner near to me had his car in the garage a whole day and they ended up telling him he needed a new regulator. Brought it to me and was on his way within ten minutes with it sorted.

If only I lived near Norfolk ha!

I believe this is similar/same as what you can do from within the door card? Although you need a special tool to get the exterior handle off?

When I had the door card off I took off the rear clamping part of the regulator to try and reseat the window, strangely it didn't have any movement further forwards. Tried this in a few positions when I had the card off but couldn't seem to make an impact. It's probably a bit easier with the whole membrane off, without risk of making mine any worse than it already is

My window wouldn't fully close, a few millimeter gap remained no matter what reset procedure I tried. Turned out to be a failing window motor (not the regulator).

Oh that's interesting! I do find the drivers side doesn't sound or move in the same way the passengers window does

Took it to a local german indy garage here in Burgess Hill, they said the window regulator had already been replaced but not installed correctly. The rear clamp was broken and the front part of the window wasn't installed correctly. All is well! A lovely drive home in relative silence
