Dreaded Run Flats / 326M alloys

During the years I've been following the cracked rim saga, there seems to be no hard and fast rule if a claim for a cracked wheel is upheld, partial payment or rejected !

The runout test seems almost like a joke considering the rim could be out because the wheel cracked and let the tyre go down to a level where a pothole could buckle the wheel.

My thoughts exactly. Such a farce!

It's more of a farce considering the cracks in the rim could also contribute to the runout !

Yeah... But the op is still in warranty so should be successful in getting a replacement is what I'm trying to say.... Jheeeeze :poke:

My 326 wheels were replaced within warranty.

Out of warranty is out of warranty. You're on your own then. Fairs fair. :|

Disagree, there is such a thing as a goodwill claim out of warranty if the car has full bmw service history/low mileage.
I've read of people having successful claims under such circumstances.

There is, but there is no obligation. My point is, noone can moan once out of warranty. :|

However goods do have to be fit for purpose and exhibit a quality that could be reasonably expected?

The warranty period is considered reasonable in the eyes of the law. Otherwise, i'd buy an old E30 and take is back to moan about the rust! :D

But that wouldn't be reasonable to expect an old car with maybe dubious history to be free of rust? :D

It seems to me that cracked wheel claims are being rejected based on some very suspect hypothesis and certainly not based on any engineering or metallurgical analysis.

More than sluggish response..apologies...'twas slow puncture on rear left. Both rears need replacing anyway so that will be circa £450 :( but on bright side this I'm hoping rules out any more drastic problems...

P.S roof down weather has arrived folks :)

Hi does anyone know if replacing awful Bridgestone rft's with the Michelin run flats which have very positive reviews effects the idrive the pressure monitor? In other words will it still work normally? Can't see any reference or threads mentioning it..

My TPMS did nothing when this happened

B8CulbQ.jpg

tyre was completely flat, had about 6mm left, as did the opposite wheel!

Good riddance RFTs....

According to Ocean BMW the last time the RFTs were replaced at Sytner (not by me) the TPS was calibrated.

I'm not sure if the e89's TPS is based on rotational reduction or internal pressure, either way it should have pinged up regardless, the tyres were totally flat.

My previous Dec 2010 was by rotation the Sept 2016 has a tpms system - I don't know when tpms was introduced.

Apart from the dealer calibration, were you also manually resetting the TPMS every time you fill your tyres? If not the tyres won't be set to the correct pressure.
