I have a 2011 BMW Z4 23i (M-Sport Highline).
Last week I was driving at night (usually a day driver) so less background noise than I'm used to and felt the music was predominantly coming from the left side door. This prompted me to check the right side and it seems fine probably just my body position etc.
I did however notice that the small speaker grills that are near the wing mirrors on the doors of both sides don't produce sound for my iPod or Radio. A few online searches have come up with guides to upgrading existing speakers and one video shows a speaker in that location being swapped out.
I've shined a torch inside them and whereas with the other speakers I can see them behind the grill. These seem empty on first inspection, I'm not willing to remove anything at this stage as the grills seem quite tightly fitted.
I'm not aware of an audio upgrade package being fitted by the original owner so are those grills just placeholders for optional speakers that I don't have? Or should I have sound coming from speakers there by default? Maybe they only do phone calls I've not tested that.
Just wondering if anyone with more knowledge can tell me if they are an optional speaker that I don't have or if I'm possibly missing them when I should have them etc.
Thanks in advance.
