"Done to death" threads - don't start new ones please

I think the best way forward is to promote the search feature on the landing page of the forum

There was a thread like this some months ago and I was surprised that a lot of regulars didn't know about using the + for narrowing down search results

Adamski i think a feq asked quetions thread link would be a great help to newbies and also some of us older members. Than if people are not to sure there could ask the question in referance to a certain thread .
" I looked at the thread about sticky stearing etc but i dont quiet understand can some one help?" I think you may be on to something there Adamski

FAQ thread is the first link

Agree with Paddy, eventually by a process of elimination all subjects will have been covered, I didn't join the forum to look at an index to my question, I joined it to get to know like minded people and have a craic with, as a newbie I found many a helping hand and polite direction to my stupid frequently asked questions, this is the first and only forum that I've ever been on, as a result feel that I know many of you personally and I have got to this by having help, guidance and being cut some slack in my early posts which gave me the confidence to do further posts.

^^^^ this.

However, I applaud the sentiment of Adamski doing it, and this thread has given me a right laugh, especially gookah's link - brilliant

I'm happy to answer anyone's questions if I can, and if I remember a previous thread and have the time I'll try to post a link to it. Part of being a member of the community and contributing IMO, and a good laugh along the way. For what it's worth, I still feel like a newbie a lot...

As for this being Facebook or Twitter, ok, it gets out of hand sometimes, but it is still a good laugh and the 'social' element is well balanced against the car related topics. A community is more than the reason it came to life in the first place, probably has to be to survive tbh.

And for the record - roadster is the answer, topic closed

The truth is not written, it evolves.
and it isn't hard to knock out a quick answer to a simple question.

Darren Stone is a jolly nice chap and I enjoyed our last chat. I am guessing we wouldn't have met if the forum was run as a closed shop. There is a constant turnover of Z4 ownership and if the new are not made welcome the forum will die.

Plus there is much more to the forum than finding an answer. I would think the major benefit is in mutual cross validation of vehicle choice. Making it seem more special for all.

Bloody old heap that it is.

and the coupe is a hatchback

I've got a slightly different perspective on this this week. I'm usually on my work computer at home on a nice quick broadband connection. Sometimes outside my house using an iPad on Wi-Fi. I went away for a few days last week and the hotel's wifi was crap. So, I ended up using my Phone. The 3G signal wasn't great either and it kept timing out on the forum search facility....

Now, I know that that's isn't the case with everyone... some people are just going to post a question because they can't be arsed to look for the answer themselves. But, given that I know my way around the forum now, and sit in front of a computer, I'm quite happy to help out by pointing someone to a page.

I agree that a dedicated FAQ section would be good. As would a Gallery section that wasn't just for the photo competition... a lot of recent threads seem to be asking to see pics of some mod or another.

I had hoped that this thread would help newbies :?

Nice idea with the links adam.will help some newbies for sure...but as others have said, kinda agree that part of the fun of looking for answers on here is coming across the banter u find whilst searching for those answers, dont u think mate?

I was thinking about doing a done to death thread, but now I find there's just too many of them...

:tumbleweed:

That should be in Nosa's crap jokes thread :poke: :D

Was just an idea from a previous thread lads.... nothing serious. Light hearted banter

Totally agree that new members need to be welcomed, I welcome most, if not all.

Anyway...

I just love this place and you guys are great, I do think Adamski is trying to be helpful, however I don't mnd the repeated questions, we were all noobs once.

However I find it amazing that people still respond to spam posts, eg woots this morning :poke:

As a Z4 newbie and forum regular (alpinaregister, mintorque, pistonheads) I do appreciate how annoying newbies repeating the same old questions can be.

Therefore being a newbie with a Z4 Roadster, all the obvious questions being in one place is great. Although I guarantee I will still ask something daft.

Hood Cleaner - Check.
RF Tyres - Check.
Speakers - Check
Wobbly Mirror - I need to find that thread :)

Is there a thread for wind noise when the hood is up?

Welcome to the forum

You've come to the right place :D

Answers for tortured souls, you know, "Dear Auntie Z4Forum I've only got a little one, will it work as well as a big one? "Will girls be put off when they see it?" "I've tried to pull it off but it won't work what should I do? "I had a big one at the rear now a small one seems too small" that sort of thing. I'll save the newbies searching for the answers.......... Just forget about bloody stubbies :P
