Doing the right thing?

Somehow, I don't think so Ron. I just can't see it that he would have put that random M badge on the boot.

Nor do I but the car is now at 4K - I've think (from memory here) that when JB sold the car it had only done a few hundred miles so somebody has had it?

I think it had about 800 miles on it when JB sold it, I'm 99% sure that's his car.

The ///M badges on the sides are standard factory fit. As has already been said, that's how they came from 2014 onwards. Not a fan myself; makes that part of the car look messier.

The ///M badge on the boot isn't standard, however.

I'm also fairly certain this is jamesbond's car, which I was trying to buy at one point. The reg plate that was in the first image rings a bell. He sold it a few months ago to a BMW dealer, then it was on the approved used site for a while and then disappeared.

Would explain the increase in mileage if someone else had bought it and used it.

Good luck with the car  A small thing, but the M badge on the flank is someone's non-factory add-on. Strictly speaking, there is no M version of the E89 Z4.

Actually, it's not. It's an official from the factory M sport badge. Most M sport models have this rather irrelevant and misleading badge now. People think it means M division involvement when in fact it's simply a trim level. Welcome to the world of brand dilution for profit.

Not to be argumentative for it's own sake, Maniac because I know you know these cars, but I have never seen a 35is with that M badge on the flank. And the spacing is so off from the rest of the badge. Can you provide any images of this badge on any other 35is models? I did a google image search and could not find any. The BMW websites in both US and UK no longer offer the Z4 as a "build your own option".

I don't need to provide evidence. It's fact.

I'll find out next Wednesday when I pick it up and let you know! ... Sounds like JB looked after it well.

If it is JB's car then it is not a one owner though, as someone bought it afterwards and took it from 800 - 4k miles.

The second owner had it very briefly then, and added that M badge on the boot (bit odd).

At least the first known 800 miles, the car would have been treated very well.

It's who had it AFTER JB that matters, at 4K now, someone else has done over 3k as JB did roughly 800 miles. Anyway it's getting silly, the car will be fine I'm sure, and you can always reject it if it isn't.

All the best, it'll be fine.

Quite ..... I've bought very good cars before now with 40k on the clock so I don't think 4k will matter unduly! The joys of buying second hand cars eh? You never know where they've been.

Have you ever bought a second hand car? I'm not quite sure what the fuss is about! If it's not new you've really got no idea what's happened to it!

It would be a comfort to know that the car has been treated well during the (vital) running in period. That was all my point was.

Quite right PVR .... I'll probably never know! Just hope it hasn't been track dayed ... don't suppose you know when jb sold it? ...... Oh, and I hope you get over your attack of the vapours about the 'M' on the boot ... I might just leave it there in case you get behind me in a traffic jam one day!

Hello

I let the car go with just under a 1000 miles on the clock (Yes and I have a very long drive way :D )

according to my letter of discharge from BMW I roughly sold it 14th April 2016 (I also have all the original purchase documents etc) I traded it at Jaguar Beadles in southend on sea ..

hope this helps

I would assume it was a 2.0 then with an M badge

Also had no M badge on the boot when I purchased the car new, only had M badges on the side from the factory (so some one has stuck that on)

That's great JB, thanks very much. So much for the dealer's answer to my first specific question ... 'Is it a one owner car?'. April to November is fair enough for 3k miles ... as I said above, as long as it hasn't been flogged to death which is, of course, one of the joys with buying used cars! Have to weigh up the saving via depreciation from new with the chance that it might be a dog! I usually go for one year old and under 10k miles if I can but this one looks as good as it did when new .... anything I should know??? :? Recently bought an ex Jaguar management XF Sportbrake 3.0 S with 9k miles and you'd be hard pressed to know it wasn't new. I'm picking your 'old' one up next Wednesday in Weston-Super-Mare which isn't exactly handy for the South of France!
Shame about the 'M' badge ... I'll have to figure out if it will leave marks if I get it off, petrol should clean any residue ... presumably the Z4 badge is stuck on rather than drilled and bolted.
Anyway, many thanks again for the info ... I'll enjoy telling the salesman what he should be telling me!
I'll let you know how it all went when I get home again! :driving:

Hairdryer and finger nails / dental floss will take it off without any damage.

Anyone who knows the Z4 will laugh at the badge as it is so inappropriate and generally used by 2.0 drivers ...

The only advantage for you is that as I overtake you in that traffic jam assuming it is a 2.0, I have to push the accelerator a little more to get passed

(Except that I would know it is a 3.0 as it has two sided pipes 8) )

The car was 100% when traded it ... I even think it never got got wet (so sad I know) to be honest it was a garage queen and the 1st 1000 miles where careful, I mainly toured around north Essex when I had it.

please find a picture (happy mem) of when me and my wife 1st took delivery at BMW Fairfield, this is the dealer I used for my order .. please be gentle, I have lost some weight since that photo was taken .. I am a sensitive chap :)

And there was me thinking you were the spitting image of Sean Connery! ... and don't worry, I'm 16 stone myself!

No doubt I could get a Z4 badge from BMW at vast expense ... wouldn't it look better with nothing at all?

Purely out of interest Kingfisher would you have been interested in my 35is? It's sapphire black with most of the options ticked including heated steering wheel, 14 speaker wireless, red interior, 2015 car on 5,500 miles, pretty much showroom condition, 29k asking. Just wondering as I was pretty half hearted advertising it.
