Doh! #readthemanual

I've had the car about 10 days now, thought I'd sussed out most of the buttons and checked out all the fitted options etc
Anyway today I noticed a button next to the door mirror switch
I've got electric folding mirrors :D

Haha! I had a similar event when I bought mine was reading the options list while going through the paperwork and realised it has electric folding mirrors! Rushed to my car to find the button

At least it was only 10 days. On another forum a guy had been complaining about lack of electric folding mirrors in his car for 4 years. Sat outside waiting on his wife one night playing about with buttons and what do you know, he had folding mirrors all along.

Should always make a bit of time to read the handbook, even just to check everything is working as expected.

I've only just coded my car to stop the aircon/vents coming on everytime I start the car. Sometimes it's the little things.

Result!

Wish I had folding mirrors on mine. :(

But at least my 325ti daily has them. :D

How did you do this it really is annoying when you are top down to keep turning off the aircon?

Don't tell me its it the manual?

Thanks

Carl

It's definitely a silly little button. I leant on it the day I bought the car without realising, I'd just gone to pick the mrs up. I had to phone to previous owner and ask why the mirrors had just gone up, and how I got them back down

I couldn't understand for weeks why no hot air came out of the centre vents, then I discovered the little horizontal wheel which controls the mix of hot/cold from these vents. There is hardly any mention of it in the manual.

I would have felt totally stupid if I had not taken it into the main dealers to get it checked out, they didn't spot the wheel either and told me my car was totally normal.

The e89 knows your top is down so don't need to mess with air on. It's in the manual.

Unfortunately not in the manual. I used a wifi OBD II reader with an app which allowed me to do it. Depending on your location there maybe someone near you who has a similar set up and can code it for you.

Definitely a worth while thing to do. Never sure why it always comes back on.

It might know the roof is down but it still keeps it on. Complete madness.

Plus if you switch it off before you get out the car, when you get back to the car and turn the engine on roof on or off it still switches on. I prefer mines to stay off if I've put it off until I put it back on.

On some BMs they don't have that but they do have an option in the iDrive. I've seen many a man in the local BMW garage with his 5 series saying their is a problem. Wait an hour for someone to say the centre vent was set to cool.

You would think the fact it's blue at one side and red at the other may indicate temperature but lots of people don't realise what it's there for. It's a bit like the colour used on taps too.

That's why I first came to this forum, and the subject of my first ever post (question).

Assuming you leave it on Auto, then it does adjust it for the conditions though. This is from the manual:

Convertible program
When the hardtop is open, the convertible program is activated as well. In the convertible program, the automatic climate control is optimized for driving with the hardtop open. In addition, the air flow rate is increased as vehicle speed increases.
The effectiveness of the convertible program can be enhanced considerably by installing the wind deflector.

Playing in the iDrive settings I found a setting called Comfort on the door opening section.
If I press the open button on the key fob twice and then open the door the window goes all the way down and all the way back up on close.

Don't quite understand why that's comfort?

If you use the car when its hot and the roof is down then get stuck in slow moving traffic, having a blast of cold air from the vents is good
