Does the boot light just pull out?

This is how I solved the lack of light in the trunk/boot....

yup, spot on. done exactly this one too and it is f'ing brilliant. get the 12V strip from fleabay then just hook it up to the existing boot light wiring (that is a little bit of faff).

It's up there with the stubby as a simple cheap to do project.
Real simple with just 2 solder or crimp joints to make.

This looks great has anyone got a little write up and one that wiring dummies like me can understand :)

Is the original discussion on this.

You just need to think how to wire it up. either splice into the two wires feeding the OEM boot light or make some some form of plug that will take the wires from the strip and then plug into the original bulb holder. i spliced. a little fiddly due to space. but nothing technical.

The adhesive on the back of mine lasted for a bit then failed - i think CJ commented on this. so i ended up getting some number plate tape from halfords and glue the strip of LEDS onto the tape then stuck the strip on the underside.

WLH has his on the outer face - i prefer - as i have and i think CJ on the underside - not noticable.

Andy, I just bought the 99p foc delivery options from Hong Kong VIA eBay. 24led strips. Got three white ones (footwells, and on rear bulk head as above) and a red one that I'm thinking of putting somewhere that would be visible to those behind me when the bootlid is up - almost like an improved reflector system. Not sure where to locate it or if poss but for 99p its worth a try ;)

I only ordered them today after reading this thread and seeing the photos of the improvements shown by others. When they arrive ill prob just splice it into the existing lamp wires. Ideally solder them but I don't have soldering iron so that won't be happening!

I used 2 Mid Wire T-Taps just behind the trunk/boot light. Just be sure not to mix the + and - wires.

I used this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/220853955307?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1977wt_1145

Plenty of light, and I think blue looks cool 8)

Thought Id give this cheap little mod a whirl and have done a little write up! First thing was to purchase a Led, so mine was this one x2 30 cm pure white strips (around £3.50 all in)

So I decided just to use the one, I first linked it up to my battery to test the colour

PB040033.jpg

My plan was to use my orginal bulb housing to connect my led so I needed to extended the wiring of my led by simply soldering or in my case botching the led to some new wiring

PB040036.jpg

I did say BOTCH  and to my surprise! linked up to the battery again, it worked!

PB040037.jpg

Then I basically took a led sidelight adapter and wired in my postive and negative wire (idea from Aquazi's write up  )

PB040039.jpg

Once this was done I pulled out my existing light removed the oem bulb and put my new adapter in place

PB040040.jpg

Then I connected the original housing back to car and bish bosh my new led

and one in the dark believe me these things are bright

My plan is now to hide the wires behind the carpets and attach the led to the flat rear scuttle panel like others have done. Sorry in advance for the baby like explanation but hopefully there are other people like me who havent really got a clue what they are doing :)

Hey good write up  -i got a set of these to do over xmas, but was dreading blowing fuses etc,can i ask where you got the white adapter cap from?

Just thought I would add two pics one wires tucked behind the carpet and one of the led now fitted and not just sitting in the boot. Very happy cheap mod :D

Wired mine up tonight - will install tomorrow.

Andy - when you have stripped the end of the cable you should be able to push the wire through the two small holes on the white adaptor - the bare cable then follows the plastic channel and bends back on itself. Hope that makes sense!!
