Does anyone have pictures of painted calipers on Ellipsoids?

it should pop out a bit more with darker wheels.

The Ellipsoids look a lot better darker on a Sterling Silver, I always think that after I have washed them, they looked better dirrty.

I was thinking about a dark copper colour myself - dark than klarky's - after seeing the tin of Hammerite on the shelf. I reckon it'd be good on a silver car with neutral (black) interior. Might actually give it a go soon if I get my finger out.

I totally agree. They look VERY silver when I wash them. They are pretty dirty at the moment and they look quite good! I need to get mine refurbed anyway, so I might get them painted a slightly 'off silver' while im at it.

Oh, and back on topic - if it was me, I'd go for red. I was going to paint mine a couple of weeks ago but I was worried it might look like I blaitently painted it on and didn't want it looking tacky.

ryukin, If I was getting mine refurbed I'd definitely for a grey colour. There's a very good (and reasonable) refurber near Hemel by the way.

Search 'Caliper' and you should see a few different examples. People have gone all different routes. Nearly all with a can of hamerite.
Dreamer, did you put the 'BMW' on yours? or was that stock?
Its a sticker pack you buy from ebay. Stick on and then i sprayed clear lacquer over it. Had them on a year and no sign of coming of at all.

Nice little touch!

i did 2 coats, in some places you could see the darker caliper with only 1 coat. i did consider a darker copper colour, but as im going dark wheels i wanted a lighter caliper colour - i agree the wheels look good when cover in brake dust, its the reason why im doing mine mercury grey

Question...do you have to take the wheels off to paint the calipers? Live on cobbled street so is not easy...

I'd have thought it would be best too. You'll have to clean it all first as well so it would make things a lot easier! You could also get paint on the alloy which wouldnt be good!

I guess it depends if you're a bit of a picasso!?

Your kidding...

A basic job can be done with wheel off and jacked up clean caliper and paint in situ. Some have great results this way with careful painting and masking. A better job is wheel off remove caliper clean and paint all around.

Either way forget any ide of trying to painth through th ewheel spokes and voids

X2 I did mine by taking off the wheels using masking tape and artist brush and it took a while, no way I would attempt with wheels on.

That's why I suggested them ;)

BJV Engineering - http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk

I got great service and results from my Borbet A's I had refurned there a couple of years ago.

I did mine 2 wheels at a time on axle stands. I agree it's not a good idea to do it wheels on. Find a flat area and get the car in the air.

CJ10,
What colour are those 108's? They look like they are a gunmetal grey? I am thinking of getting my 108's re-sprayed and like the look of yours.....

Smoked chrome. Done with black paint then wet chrome finish and lacquered over. Had just the stars done locally by a specialist and polished up the outer lips myself.

Gunmetal would give a flat paint finish while these change depending on angle and light

Yours match the seats too though, which helps!

Fancy doing mine BMW blue at some point.

It's no accident that they do match (well the same basic colour) Much of the detracting and contrasting colour has gone too - amber indicators, amber sides and rears, red centre brake, blue and white badges, etc. - all gone

Of course i could help do the calipers, but frankly it will take as long to drive here and back than do them.
Heh, I wasn't requesting (I omitted an 'I' at the start of the sentence), but thanks for considering it anyway! :D

I thought that would be the answer...just checking!! Difficult in the middle of London but definitely on the list of jobs to do.

Stubby is on the way...
