Do Z4 owners wave

Hi, on my commute I pass a Z4 convertible - I drive a coupe. I have flashed and casually waved ( I used to own an Elise and this was the done thing...well any Lotus really, as I have a Esprit too and bloody hell, even Porche drivers give the 'hello' and thumbs up)

Anyway...no response. Don't want to come accross as a dickwad. So is it a case of ignore, or is it usual to respond to a driver of this fine marque? :tumbleweed:

Not that it worries me at all - I'm sure the fine forum members here would respond....

I drive a coupe and I have never waved at a roadster, not having a dig there :P but i always look at the driver and if they look my way i would make a subtle acknowledgement but all the ones i have seen driving the other way never look!

However on the one occasion in 7 months ownership i have seen another coupe, both the bloke driving and his wife in the passenger seat were pointing me out from miles away and seemed really pleased to see another coupe

i personally find it very weird.

after all, it's a mass produced car.

do you reckon mondeo drivers wave to eachother?

I'm used to waving or nodding at other motorcyclists on the road - some wave and nod back, some ignore. When I drove about in my MX5 (always roof down) I would acknowledge other MX5s and the same would occur.

I think there are less Z4s on the road than MXs so the argument that it's a common car doesn't hold up with me - (maybe the clientelle who buy a Z4 might be more varied?).

Anyway - I think I want to acknowledge that someone has made the same judgement and choice in driving this particular specialist sports car as me - and if they recognise and understand this I think they wave back - if not they probably wouldn't speak to me in the car park about the car or lack confidence or think I'm a plonker - no problem - I'll continue to acknowledge owners and see which have the same 'petrol head' as me!

I hope when we meet on the road you'll give me a nod of understanding - we've got a shared enthusiasm for this special car and I'm not afraid to have that enthusiasm recognised

Hmm - I like the idea of flashing but I was on the motorway (not in the Zed) and wanted to let a car I'd just overtaken know that their high intensity rear fog lights were still on so I pulled on my rear fog lights using the SOS, three short three long three short flashes - forgetting that I was also pulling on my front fog lights as I did this - three cars in front pulled over to let me pass!

Point being - I don't want to confuse other road users if I flashed an on-coming car - might try it though!

Completely agree with the above point, friend of mine caused an accident (low speed knock not major) where he flashed to let someone out - but someone on the opposite side waiting to turn thought it was a signal for them to go - the two cars hit, responsibility didn't come down to him (ultimately they were responsible for not checking clear exit etc) but certainly a lesson in how it can cause problems.

I wave if people wave at me but it's rare, as I've posted before, nice roadster lady round the corner always exchanges waves with me :-)

When I had my little Blue Fiat Coupe the drivers of pretty much every other coupe I ever saw, waved or flashed their lights, to aknowledge another sufferer, sorry I meant Fiat Coupe driver.

Since I've had my MR, other Z4s just drive staight on past. There are hundreds of E85's & E86's around here in the summer.(not many M's) I don't think many of the Fiats lasted long enough to make it past their first owners and filter into the Cornish economy.

The group of drivers who do aknowledge the MR are M3 & M5 drivers, though not M6 drivers. Just my observations. :)

Problem is there are some Zed drivers who aren't "passionate" about their motor, nor do they realise there is a group of people who are...

I have flashed/been flashed by 2 z4 M's before; 1 roadster and 1 coupe. But usually I find a thumbs up/wave usually comes from an M3 sitting next to me at the lights. Had a little 'sprint' with one onto the motorway before and we gave each other the thumbs up before splitting.

I always think i am going to do it then dont do it for fear of looking a plonker!! After reading this i am going to wave and be proud i am Z4 driver :D

I'm still new to Z ownership so each time I see one I think 'Oooh! ...' and then it's gone. Will have to get into the habit :D
