Do Compliments About Your Car.....

...make you feel awkward?

I was out polishing the car earlier this evening when some youngish lad walked past, stopped. looked at the car and said "you know what mate, that is the most amazing machine I've ever seen in all my life".

Clearly he'd either received a recent eye injury or has lived a very sheltered life but despite this all I could muster was an awkward smile and a "thanks". It's the same whenever someone pays it a compliment, I always feel a little embarrassed and never really know how to respond.
 
I get 1 or 2 compliments per month on the average and more during the summer from adults to kids. Often I will spend a few minutes talking to them about the Zed or cars in general... :thumbsup:

being the coupe you will have to get used to the constant flattery :wink: if it help's it does get easier to deal with :)
 
I work in a secondary school, so I get a lot of "Miss, is that your car?" comments from the lads. Love it!!
 
I kind of know what you mean - and give the same response. When the person starts asking questions it gets worse as I feel like I am showing off. Which is clearly ridiculous :roll:

However, consider :

"It's a 3.0"
"260 BHP"
"Didn't cost as much as you'd think" followed by "New ? Probably about £36k"
"Yeah, quite quick - 0-60 in just less than 6 secs if you push hard"

I don't think I'd be able to hold a conversation if I had an ///M - I'd run away :rofl:

Secretly I love it though 8)
 
My girlfriend has been take my car to work for last week until her f20 arrives, she works at a school

Couple of the teachers husbands keep thinking it is the head teachers car until they say "no its that young couple we picked up last week"

I get young kids shouting at me when I drive past. 'Nice car luv'!
I like it when people comment, which they do a lot. I just smile and say 'thanks, it is isn't it?' when they tell me it's a lovely car.

I think that's probably it, the showing off feeling. I've always been brought up to be very modest, to my detriment I think, so that's possibly why I feel awkward.

This forum is great, car talk and DIY psychotherapy :)
 
Funny enough i feel the same... I dont know what to say back, except thanks... And dont try knick it :lol:

Yes, but it's tucked away nicely from any wandering teenagers, but where I can still see it from my office!
 
I had a guy say nice car mate the other Saturday when I was at some traffic lights with the roof down, I just smiled and said thanks :oops:

However if I'm cleaning it on the drive and someone walks past and comments I can talk for ages about it, life in general, work, the weather, politics, holidays, children, football , X factor, dancing............I'm quite chatty :)
 
I actually got flagged down in Nottingham a couple of weeks ago by a dodgy looking chap in an E46 - when I didn't stop he followed me into the train station. Turns out he just loved my car and wanted to know where I got my wheels!!!
 
I've never had a compliment. Supposedly I don't look like the kind of person people just talk to though. The term serial killer has been used in the past :(
 
I don't see how an unsolicited compliment could be considered showing off. Now if you respond with a string of statistics without being asked, that could be considered showing off. When I first had the Zed, I was a bit uneasy about the attention it got. I didn't feel I was showing off, rather I just generally prefer to not stand out. At some point I realised, no one was noticing me, just the car. I'm good with that. While I appreciate any compliments, I'd just as soon talk about something else in person. I get all the Zed talk I need right here!
 
Driving the Z4C brings nothing but flattery my way and I take great satisfaction from it.

I do enjoy using the line "you should see my weekend car...." sometimes wasted on some of the folk in my area however :(
 
I have had 4 different people say its the James Bond car. I don't get it myself but he does drive some nice cars.

I had one kid say "nice car mister" my god that made me feel old ;)

I don't know what to say so it usually ends up being just thanks.
