I just bought my own oil to take in - saves half the price as well.

Dealers use Castrol SLX, but I will bring Castrol Edge when next oil service is due.

Depends which BMW dealer you go to. my local one uses Castrol SLX .
The other one near by uses Mobil 1, it even states it on the service receipt

Has anyone used these people?

http://www.servicingstop.co.uk

I just found them after trying to find a local version of bmwcarspecialist.co.uk (im in London). All I want is an oil service 1 without paying a ridiculous price... the car is getting work done on it by excellent technicians I know and trust elsewhere so all I'm after is a service stamp in the book! ... and I wouldnt trust BMW servicing any more than these people so I may give them a go? :/

It's not THAT bad is it?

Oil, coolant, brake fluid, about £80 in consumables to do it DIY anyway, then wipers, £30 isn't a crazy amount.

So £110. £250 for labour, and coolant, oil and brake fluid will be a good 2 hours I'd say, bleeding each calliper through, wheel off each corner, then back on, coolant, bring system to thermostat open, check for airlocks, bleed through.

I bet an independent would charge £250, and it's not a BMW dealer stamp, so maybe £100 impact on value/ease of sale come resale time.

Try own something French and use their dealers, THEN you will know pain when it WILL go wrong (often by their doing from last time they touched it ;) )

Dave

Now you have me thinking,as i had locking wheel nut key at home,so is it possible for them to bleed it
without taking the wheels off ? ,as you say its not that bad,one sunny day with the hood down,
and it just seems like pennys, going to look at fluids to see if clean, cheers :)

had a french car once, cost a fortune

german or jap for me.

I'm not 100% sure, but probably not.

You could empty the reservoir, but you can't empty the pistons in each calliper without letting some out of them (ie, bleeding old stuff out as new stuff falls in)

cheers billy, wish ad put this point across last night, you may have saved
me a fortune,dont no how i havent seen it,am there every 2nd

thanks,billy.

no worries, i've only had my car just under four weeks and the next service isn't due for about 9k so i haven't had a chance to try them out yet myself but they seem sound. i emailed them asking about getting them to fit the iPod connector kit i've bought but they only do servicing/m.o.t. and mechanical stuff. I was at the Motherwell game last week at Ibrox - good result

If the car is on a ramp/car lift you can get the bleed nipples from behind the wheel and underneath

Good point. Is that the way BMW service would do it anyway? I guess if they are doing oil/coolant while it's up in the air then it makes sense to do it that way :)
