DIY vinyl wrap

Hey guys,

I know everyone said it'd be hard to do, but having tried it ALL night last night, I can now announce to every curious person out there: THIS IS A MYTH!

It is VERY times consuming- but a kid could do it!
The more patient you are, the better results you achieve.
I used Avery 900 which was a pain in the ass compared to the videos I've seen on youtube- It broke when I heated it too much!

Idiot over here (me) bought the wrong size vinyl! (or mayb I ordered the right size and they gave me the wrong size!) So I couldnt manage the bonnet.

Im looking into buying Vinyl from Hexis for the bonnet as this moulds very well when heated (if anyone knows a supplier, please let me know!)

Just thought I'd share this with everyone and declare myself a car wrapper too! I am defo qualified after last night!

Not sure when I will finish it as I was using the Loading Bay at work and I need to order wider vinyl for the car so until then, I am driving around London like a twat in a multi-coloured car! But not for long!

If anyone sees me, please dont laugh! haha

Oh and you need a lil helper!

Leave it like it is a get vinyl door sticker that say POLICE

But seriously, well done for having the balls to have a go. Looks good to me

Things people do to avoid a speeding ticket ... "no officer, my car is not black, it is white " :D

Great work and credit for tackling it.

Not sure it's a myth that it can't be tackled DIY, certainly time consuming and needs care to finish correctly, but you have skill and access to a nice spacious workshop that many don't.

Looks good, I'm gonna have a go later in the year. What's it like at covering stone chips? as my bumber looks like it's been machine gunned :(

.....the works loading bay? :poke:

Sure - aware.
I was referencing that many of the Zed drivers here have on street only parking or drives, some have small garages but few access to fairly clean and spacious areas to work in.

I'm not too sure as I dont really have any bumps and I havent dont my bumper yet. Although one thing I would say is the avery stuff is really thin and from what I here, so is 3m. Apparently, there is a thicker vinyl for cars by hexis.

I am going to get some for my bonnet (as I bought the wrong size) and Probs some for my bumper too and I'll let you know mate!

Marry Xmas!

wow thats damn impressive; good work

Did you remove anything to apply the vinyl? such as the side indicators, rubber/ plastic trims, rear ligths etc?

What do you have left to do? Looks like the bonnet, boot and both bumpers... i'll keep an eye out for you in London!

I bought 12m. If I'd have bought the correct width, I reckon it would be pretty much exactly enough. Maybe get 15m just to be safe.

Hexis is cheaper than Avery just so you know!

Had a look on the Hexis site and found this PDF... http://www.hexis.co.uk/pdf/Hexis_Price_09.pdf

Looks like it'll cost someone circa £170-£250 dependant on what vinyl and colour you choose. That is not bad.

ymcewen, where did you get your tools from and how much did they come to?

I got it from the site below. (the applicator) It was £3.50

I had most of the other stuff already (pen knife, heat gun and pressure spray bottle)
