I've justs ordered some eibachs for the m, considering fitting them myself . Fairly confident but could use a guide of some sort.

Can find much online , does anyone have any tips , special tools required etc ? Do I need a spring compressor ?

Thanks

Jamie

TimG did his springs the other day and posted some nice pics of the process, seemed quite fuss free compared to some cars which usually need a spring compressor, he did fine without.

Hi Jamie

yes you need a spring compressors for the fronts, the backs are very easy to change.
I bought a very cheap pair off ebay but thay did not compress down far enough, so i had to hacksaw the ally bit that went over the spring down a bit and they worked fine then.
I have used them on the fronts twice because the first time i did not uprate the shocks the first time! :o
So if i was you i would buy a set of uprated shocks or you will be bouncing like a bouncy thing. :(
Hope this helps
Col.

Seems to be mixed opinions on whether or not spring compressor is needed ?

I don't intend to upgrade shockers for now ...just to be clear my cars a m coupe with Csls , should be ok with oem shockers?

Jamie

You need compressors see http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27124&p=374517&hilit=spring+fitting#p374501

And i would fit Koni Sport Adjustable Front Shock Absorbers!!
Unless you want to do half a job!
i can hear it now, Dont say i told you so!!!!!!

Sorry that would be half a job!! Fit Sport Adjustable Front And Rear Shock Absorbers!!!!!! From Larkspeed!!!!

I was under the impression most of the guys fitting eibachs were doing so straight on to oem shockers ?

Colin your putting doubts in my mind !

Anyone advise who is on mtech suspension with eibachs ?

Cheers .

At least 3 zeds at the last Scottish meet were running Eibachs on M Sport suspension. No issues.

Several have fitted Eibachs on an ///M, again no issues.

If you buy cheap springs, with high spring rates, this may wear out shocks quicker and give a bouncy ride. However, Eibachs are quality springs which do not require upgraded shocks, and often improve the ride quality vs OEM.

Fit the springs with OEM and see what you think first!
You can always fit shock at a later stage if you want and you will be able to do it in half the speed having done it once befor!
I found it a tad bouncy with OEM and Eibachs myself!
No doubt Several have fitted Eibachs with OEM suspension at the Scottich meet But we all know how tight they are :poke:

Discussion thread on different options for ///M lowering springs.

To the OP - theres a link in the above thread to further discussion and example pictures of a few ///Ms which have been lowered on Eibachs. One had CSL rims as you have. Worth a read

Okay , so it appears there's a little confusion . My fault I should have posted this in the "m" section .

The guides above are no use for z4m ?

I have a front wheel off but that's as far as I have got , I have removed 1 bolt which has a white star shaped cover at the back of it . I can't seem to get into the nut ?

Any ideas what this white cap is ? Does it just pop off ? I see no mention of it on any z4m or m3 DIY guides.

Thanks daz , I got there in the end , had to slide an open spanner up the back .

Unfortunately broke a part in the process ! See my other post.

Anyway fronts are back together at the moment and it looks .... Low !

quick question

The dust boots around the shocker have came loose, they were loose before I started . What should I do with them ? Is it essential that they are fixed properly ? They are back on but the chrome piston is visible when jacked up .

I kind of straightened mine out and refitted them, no issues since.

Bad luck on the broken bit, I'm sure that happened to someone else on here.

Ok next problem !

Got the new part fitted all seems good .

I turn the steering tonight and I can hear a clunk/twang from the passenger front spring :headbang:

Got the mrs to turn the wheel while I had a better look and it seems that it's jumping a bit on each turn ?

I'm 99% sure the spring is seated Properly . Any ideas folks?

I cant believe I'm gonna have to dismantle this shocker AGAIN.

Help appreciated guys.
