Disregard - just me sounding off!

On 15th April this year I sold a silver E85 2.5i auto to a forum member. (https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=146568)
It was sold in good faith and to the best of my knowledge I highlighted the issues it had. I also provided a print out of what I had done.
Sadly it seems this car has not been a good purchase for the buyer.
There has been a list of issues, from a burst radiator, bald tyres (???), airbag light (due to missing clips on the drivers door airbag plug), and now it seems the complete replacement roof motor and pump assembly I fitted has failed with the roof down.
With the exception of the last issue, these have all been duly reported on the forum and it would be obvious to anyone looking for a Z4 that they should steer well clear of anything I offer!
There would be no point in me attempting to dispute any of these reports as the seed is sown regardless.

Therefore, from now on I will not risk upsetting anyone else and will pursue my hobby elsewhere when it comes to selling on the cars I have 'rescued'.

I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to the buyer of RY04 KZH for all the inconvenience.

Burst rad…could happen anytime, not generally something one can envisage.

Bald tyres…they didn’t go bald all of sudden so we’re obvs needing changing on sale and perfectly understandable given the purchase price.

Roof motor is a shame but I’m assuming it was a 2nd part and may have been faulty anyway, just bad luck, it happens.

Airbag clips…and…? You know the solution, hardly anything to get steamed about, quick fix.

Carry on, absolutely no need to stop what you’re doing because of a couple of issues with a very cheap Zed that’s had a lot of preventative work done. I’d bet my arse no one on here would think you’ve not been anything but diligent and straight, I’d 100% buy something off you if I was in the market.

You can’t be responsible for things going awol after a car is sold given the price point, and if anyone wants perfection don’t buy a high mile old car for under 3k.

It is not the issues it is the fact they are all reported on here.
No smoke without fire as they say.
Yes, I've had a drink and I'm pi$$ed off!
But it left here with clips fitted!!! I know because that was the door I found with no membrane on it at all, so the airbag had to come out!

But thank you.

Problem is, people these days seem to expect a second hand/older car be like brand new and then moan when a lightbulb fails. Like anything it can be buyer beware, do the checks to satisfy yourself or accept something thats 2nd, 3rd, 4th hand will have issues and wear and tear.

Tim.

Bald tyres? It’s on HIS TO DO LIST “PS4s” all round.

Your confidence/ ego has taken a dent. Painful I know (human nature) and you won’t forget it, but you will learn from it

Get pissed, get Val to lick your wounds and tomorrow is another day

I for one can vouch for ALL you have done to my car and ALL parts you have sold me. :D

Chin up 8)

Don’t agree with taking ownership of this - the car was sold at virtually scrap value (the same as the first repair bill I had when I bought a Z). I actually missed any reports of issues to be honest but it would be such a shame if you felt the need to stop doing this.

Sounds like the buyer is trying it on to be honest. Evidently either tried to mod/fix stuff and cocked it up. You do so much for people on here, don't let this get to you!
That said, I can't see any posts from the buyer relating to any issues apart from one?

I agree with what others have said - don't let a few issues stop your hobby.

Things are going to go wrong on a 20 year old BMW from time to time. My 2005 3 Series seems to throw up a £400/500 bill every year or so, but I just live with that knowing there is zero depreciation. :)

I dont think he is trying it on to be fair.
It is just frustrating that a list of issues is being produced that I know are not my doing, but anyone would think so if they looked at it.

Oh I won't stop, I am still happy to help fix people's car problems.
Just think I'll sell on any cars I sort via other mediums.
Probably make a better profit that way too.

Don’t be daft, you do a good job keeping these old high mileage cars on the road, you can’t know everything that’s wrong or going to be wrong with a car you sell. I have often said to my wife that I would happily buy one of your sorted out cars. You take old, worn out zeds, give them a new lease of life and pass them on to new owners to enjoy.

I don't understand this thread.
I have looked at every post the buyer has made on the forum and I can't find anything that points the finger at Martin for any of the issues. I also can't find mention of most of the problems Martin has eluded to in the opening post. So I'm confused. :?

Hmmm…. this is very worrying. I find myself agreeing with Pondrew again , I can’t see any finger pointing in the posts of the buyer? I am also confused, not that it takes much these days

I didn’t say finger pointing. What I said was that if someone new wanted to buy a car I’d advertised, then read the related posts they would start to see all these issues and assume I’d sold a dud.

Ah forget it!

Martin, I think it's more your ego that's taken a bashing here than your confidence. You pride yourself, rightly so, on the quality of your work and it's obvious to us all that you work on these cars for love, not profit.
It's a numbers game mate, even a certain amount of brand new cars rolling off the production line have faults showing up a few weeks later, so with the amount of cars you work on, it was bound to happen.

Keep selling here, the buyer isn't complaining or throwing any blame your way. This thread, coupled with all your other threads giving help and selling cars you've put back into good condition, is great provenance for future buyers.

Hope the head is not too bad this morning.

Must have been via PM then as did not find anything either.

On my very first outing with my Z I had a flat, just meant I had to replace the tyres way sooner than I planned and bought new wheels instead as well. Part of the expected unexpected costs of an old car (not to mention the 2.2k bill for the hand brake failure a week later).

As everyone has Zed- you’re one of the good ones mate- don’t get put off doing what you do! As always it’s appreciated!

And if you think the cars are bad, just wait for the jokes :poke:
