Discovery etc on sky

You realize do you that you are chatting in a public forum about pirate and illegal stuff?

It's all hypothetical...

ZGemma boxes are designed to receive freely available channels.

any non-hypothetical legal solutions? :p

guess im going to get an aerial installed, and add a freeview/tivo/recordybox to compliment my amazon+netflix

I had sky hd for a number of years but switched to BT 2 years ago and couldn't be more impressed.
It had all of the channels i usually watch (eurosport for cycling, discovery, the kids channels for my boys) and all for much less than sky costs.
Here are the channels available:
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/46017/~/what-channels-are-available-on-bt-tv?

With Bt if you give them a call to say the package is getting to expensive after being with them for 12 months, they will renew your contract. This reduced mine by £16 a month for the same content.

Given that I know nothing (or very little at most) I'm thinking of an all in one solution. My sky and bt are both up to renewal soon and I may well combine all into one. Don't really want to leave bt for phone and Internet as it works well out here in the sticks. (If I do I guess I'll lose my 'btinternet' email address???).

Sky to is simply so much better then freeview (picture quality and sound) in both normal and HD. If I shift to to BT TV I'd worry about loss of quality.

I pay about £80 total to and phone/internet. Don't watch sport, movies, box sets. Don't stream video, music or any other heavy use on internet. We do watch and record basic to chanels in HD and the car programmes on discovery.

Conundrum.

Freesat box?

whats a free sat box? what do they do/cost

Cost from about £50, more if you want pause/record facilities. Connect to your existing Sky sat dish and get freeview sat channels.

I work for Sky (don't shoot me) and I agree that it's a seriously expensive package, though I don't think there is much out there that can beat it for quality, intuitiveness and content. I have Sky Q and it's bloody brilliant (though I would say that  ). The loss of Discovery and Eurosport is frustrating though in this case it was Discovery who were holding us to ransom the greedy beggers.

I would suggest those who want to stay with Sky give them a call and express your concerns, say you are considering moving to a competitor (BT) and see if they negotiate the price. It's amazing what the sales team will do to hold on to a customer.

The problem with this is if you actually want the channels that Sky can no longer provide lowering the cost of your package doesnt really work. You would just be paying less for something you dont want. :headbang:
I am with Virgin so it doesnt affect me thankfully :D ......... at the moment :?
I have been thinking of ditching it though and going for freeview as the tv is crap and for the money I do feel ripped off. Got Kodi for films and series anyway.

The only reason I have sky is im on 60% off all tv and half price broadband. If they lose discovery I won't be staying with them. I worked out there are only a small handful of paid for channels I actually watch and all the good series are on things like netflix anyway.
I also have access to kodi and a reliable cline.

I would gladly ditch Sky if it wasn't for the fact that it's the only channel to show live golf.
Also have BT sport but only ever watch the odd football match. We all watch Discovery and would miss the car programmes, Gold Rush, some Nat Geo progs etc. Will wait to see what happens.

If the Discovery line up of 12 or so channels disappear tomorrow I'm facking Sky right off! How can the miserable tw4t baskards boot Mike and Ed of me telly box? It's just not on. :headbang:
