Discounted BMW track evenings

Hey Craig, nice one for posting the pictures. The 1st is mister_dj, 2nd is my car and 3rd is tjlazer's. Wouldn't mind getting a hi-res one of the 2nd pic if possible!

Your mini sounded pretty fucking epic, and shifted too! What did you have in that thing?

Thats good, your all on here :) The Mini is running about 265bhp, on coilovers and R888s, really pleased how it was running on track. The z4s looked and sounded awesome :D If any of you want a high res pic just PM me your email and i'll send it over.

Craig, thanks for popping along, very decent of you...

it was a novice day

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did, some great pics. I think that one of playalistic's (the red one) looks good, you were probably able to keep the shutter open for a good while :P

You must have been sailing pretty close on the noise levels, do you know what it registered?

Sounds like you all had fun... Brave boys running with TC off :driving: :o I tried TC off once at Snett and found myself facing the wrong way in the gravel, so haven't done it since then  - probably down to my driving style and also didn't allow for adjusting to driving style without TC on - you'll be surprised as to how much work it does in the background without realising. I would say, the car felt much quicker with TC off, but the off scared me sh**tless.

It was a really fun evening. My 2nd track day and learnt lots about the car :) The noise was 96db at static but got 2 warning signs going round. Going to get a stock cat put in this week as it currently has a sports cat in so should tone it down a little. The bmw car club were taking lots of pics, so hopefully they will be added to there flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bmwccgb/collections/

I did the warming up laps and sighting with TC on and then the first fast lap. The intervention is crazy and you can feel it snatching at your brakes all over the shop. On the road the TC seems to let you have a little fun before it reels you in but on track it was a totally different story I felt. I guess this is down to the speeds you're cornering and the lateral forces that you don't really approach on the public road (most of the time anyway ;))

This isn't even mentioning getting on the power... Even progressively getting on the throttle out of the slower exits it felt sometimes that the TC just totally put the stoppers on. I'm sure on a more technical track like Brands or Snett I'd be leaving it on a little longer than I did at Bedford to get a feel but it wouldn't stay on for the duration without a doubt. DSC on will surely cook your brakes all that quicker as it is snatching around all the time?

I did have a few opposite lock moments coming out of turn 1 and the slow right/left before the back straight (too impatient on the throttle) but there was nothing I couldn't reel in and I don't class myself a particularly talented driver. I felt the car was pretty progressive in warning me I was pushing my luck, it wasn't as if it would just snap out without warning. I'm sure your car is setup much less conservatively than ours, especially since you have the stickier rubber which I assume snaps out of grip pretty quick when you approach the limit.

Certainly at the end of the session when it rained you could feel the car getting livelier in the faster corners but again, plenty of warning feedback coming through.

Heck, on the road I have the DSC off so long as it isn't raining. You have to be an equal measure of brave & stupid to really bin it in my experience.

Not much to add to the great posts above, flatout I highly recommend the Andy Walsh day if the TC off is intimidating, the M really comes to life with it off, for me it reveals the car's real character!

Great day on the track on Monday! I was pleasantly surprised with my brakes, as they had faded on a previous track day, but were fine this time! I guess not having a passenger helped (less weight).

Nice to meet a few other Z4 forum members (playalistic, pawnsacrifice, alfamale), and nice motorway cruise from/to bedford.

I will try to post a few pictures later today.

That's PawnSacrifice's car

There were piles of photographers there it seemed. I wonder where the pics are going to end up? I've been keeping an eye out on the BMWCCGB page on flickr as they seem to have put them there for all their previous days so far. They don't seem to mention the day on their forums anywhere or at least I couldn't find it anyway... :?

Hi all, I'm the long-time lurker with the Interlagos Z4MR. I joined the forum when looking for an M last year but it's taken until now to get posting.

I went to the nearest Shell in Kempston beforehand, but they were out of V-Power. I didn't bother putting anything else in as I thought I'd be ok. On leaving Kempston, I think it was tjlazer I ended up behind for a two-M convoy in.

Tiff's apperance was only brief but an unexpected bonus. I was glad the briefing didn't take the hour billed, with the sighting laps done early enough, so that the actual open pit lane session started just before 17:30. I was back in after a lap as the marshalls left the flashing reds on by mistake, but trying to go straight back out was the only time I had to queue.

I've done a trackday in the M already, but I'm still wary of switching the DSC off. It may have saved me from a spin outside the pits but next time it's definitely going off. The instructor was worthwhile, even though it started 20 minutes late, as I'd been getting the wrong angle on the chicane and not turning in early enough elsewhere.

I've a second set of M alloys with well-worn rears that I used on the day, which made things interesting when it started to rain. On my very last fast lap just before the end I did go for the fastest possible speed on the long straight and got the needle to 140. I should have paid more attention to the approaching curve, slightly faded brakes and damp track as the left hander didn't happen. To the bemusement of the 540i I'd just passed, I took the straighter lawnmowing route  But Bedford is very safe with wide run-off and the only place where you don't want to spin is just before the long straight.

The fuel range was down to 1 mile at the end, so in complete contrast I did the most gentle driving ever in the M to find the nearest open petrol station - really should have put some in earlier.

Good to refuel myself with playalistic, pawnsacrifice and mister_dj on the way back.

Just managed a few pictures.

Here's the Interlagos trio - the his and hers MCs and my roadster - plus if you look hard enough I think it's pawnsacrifice.

Just need to work out how I'm going to get this lot out

I highly recommend one of these subsidised novice half-days. It looks like they've now split the days up so that MINI and BMW get their own evenings for the rest of the year.

James! Glad to see you move from lurker to poster. Hopefully we'll see you at another one of these days too.
