Disca's S5 V8

@PVR

There are design differences between the two that aren't too obvious in the picture I uploaded. The grill when off the car looks like this:

Yes, I can see the difference as it is the honeycomb design - the same as used on GTIs etc. Just that the old grill was noticeably different whilst the new one is subtle.

I guess the main distinguishing feature between the TFSI and the Honeycomb would the RS5 badging normally. I have the option to put the S5 badge onto that grill with some DIY magic however a few people have suggested keeping it clean.

Would look like this:

Opinions?

RE the grill ,
The S car Audis are not exactly "in your face" styling wise & many not in the know would struggle to see the signs of what is & isn't a genuine article
V8 S5 should have some front end shout & the black honeycomb grill against dark paint has taken that away .
Its a subtle mod but imo dilutes the front end too much into the ordinary ( & for once my son agrees with me :o )
If you like it though thats all that matters
For the record what numbers are you reading on the MPG in town & out ?

To be honest there isn't too much difference between most of the A5 range models so it usually takes someone who knows what to look for to tell them apart anyway! Salesman always sold it as a wolf in sheeps clothing, I guess it makes it more fun at traffic lights :D

MPG wise...

100 mile commute to Birmingham for me with a steady 70mpg cruise control returned 30.3MPG, I average about 22, around town its 17 or so. Can see below 15 on the live readout anytime the engine is under load and the figures only go up on steady cruising!

I probably get 275 miles a tank, which is about £75 from literally near empty, I do not however recommend playing fuel light roulette with the V8! It has caused mild panic only once so far...

I like the rs grill... it's one of those things whuch don't photo too well (unless you get the anthracite one and not all black)

You'll need the rs or face-lift front bumper now!

I agree it doesn't show as well in images as it does in person

No plans to change the bumper at present!

Your car is beautiful mate. Like the new grill also.

Think I'll be going down the Audi A5 route next year, unfortunately not a s5 :(

Have you not been tempted to go the whole hog and change the front headlights to the new style.?

Not yet as that costs a small fortune!

Seems the forum has a split opinion on the grille!

Also to fit the facelift lights requires a facelift bumper as they change the profile of the lights.... The facelift lights have a cut out made in the lower centre section while the pre are rectangular shaped.

I actually think the facelift rear looks nicer than the pre... But the front i think the led lights of the pre looks nicer.

Moving away from the Grille I also spent a few hours sorting out the exhaust tips! A combination of tar remover, autosol metal polish, an old scotchbrite sponge (so the green stuff was soft) and some steel wool grade 0000.

Great work on the exhaust tips  I used to get sick of doing them on our old TTS but they look so good when clean, I am in the prefer the old grill camp too sadly.

I would love a S5 with that gorgeous sounding V8! 8)

Like your efforts on the tips mr D , whilst you're on a modding streak have you considered the rear valance in black ? Could be wrapped for easy removal ?

Thanks

This is an interesting one, front splitter and valence to black... looks quite nice, I do quite like the stock valence though! It is an A5 though so slightly different parts!
