I assume that almost everyone thats out for a Z4 ends up doing some research, pro's cons and so on. We're all aware of the infamous DISA valve. i definitely was, almost a year ago when i was on the hunt. I remember asking the previous owner lots of questions about the DISA however, he didnt seem to shrug. he told me its never been replaced but didnt need to. he didnt notice anything odd or get any error codes. Fair enough becuase to this date neither did I. I was meant to do this a few weeks after getting my car but oh well, here i am 11 months later.

I didnt notice anything odd with the car. torque was great on the low end. To be honest, i didnt know what to compare it to because ive never driven a Z4 with a working DISA

Long story short. I got the rebuild kit, decided to take the DISA out and oh boy, did i dodge a bullet. Enjoy the pictures below. The bellcrank was completely rounded off with the hooking clips missing. I always assumed the DISA was good because when connecting/disconnecting power to the DISA, i saw the crank arm move + heard the noise of the diaphram. Little did i know that it was not actuating anything haha

I would definitely suggest new owners to check this immediately, especially if you dont see anything about a variable intake valve replacement on the service history. Time to rebuild this
