DISA valve check

Hi guys I’ve got a 3.0 e86 and there’s an engine management light on.

I’ve just bought the car and drove it back from the old owners house to a storage unit of mine about 60 miles and it drove great. Smooth and plenty of power so no symptoms from that drive.

I’ve read up on the DISA valve and thought it’s worth an inspection even just for peace of mind. Can someone tell me if I inspect it and it’s faulty by the pin dropping out issue. Can I put it back in temporarily and drive it whilst I’ve ordered a new DISA Valve or is this a case that once removes and faulty I need to have the new replacement valve ready to install?

You have the N52 engine. DISA valve failure on the M54 engine is common but not so much on the N52, but it is wise to replace them. The higher-powered versions of the N52 have two valves. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2294670-2006-Z4-3-0i-No-DISA-Valve Get a good model specific code reader to see why the engine management light is on
