Did you buy your car with cash?

I have leased a few cars but for the most part I've paid cash including my current ///M Roadster.

I got a low rate graduate loan to buy my car, got my bike on finance because they always seem to be on 0% and it seems rude not to.
As long as you can afford the re-payments and have enough value in the car/bike to cover what you owe on it should the worst happen then i dont see any problem how you decide to buy things.

Thats how i see it. Its like reverse saving getting finance if you dont go crazy. I could have saved for the next 5 years and got the Z4 or just got finance.

I left school at 16 and went straight into working a couple of weeks after! When i was 18 i became the owner of a company with my Dad. He already has his own company which he set up on his own about 12 years ago (we didn't have much at all before that and i would never have dreamed that i'd be driving a Z4 in the future) and as the company became extremely successful after he absolutely worked his arse off, he was able to aim even higher. So he bought the whole vicinity in which his first company is based when it came up for sale. But he couldn't run it all, especially while travelling around the country with his racehorses as well as running Special Metals & Engineering, so he asked me to do it because he thought i could. And he knew University wasn't for me unlike my sister.

So in June 2006 i left my job, signed the papers and became an owner of SHS Freight Services with my Dad. It might seem like i just had the company handed to me, but it wasn't a decision to take lightly and Dad specifically wanted me to do it. And i guess he wanted to give me more than what he could when i was younger, and set up for a good future. Which is why he is also helping my sister through University. She is now preparing to move to Los Angeles next year with her fashion studies!
We don't take anything for granted, we know the value of money and are a very close, happy family. I feel very lucky and i'm still the most down to earth girl you can imagine.

So last year i was able to sell my Ford SportKa that i got when i passed my test and had for nearly 2 years, go to the BMW dealership in Lincoln and buy my Z4 without resorting to finance or loans.
I do still live at home, but that's because i'm not ready to leave yet. I could if i wanted to but i'm still only 22 and am happy living with my parents for now, who are a lot like friends to me as we get on so well. I don't have any debts, any credit cards and i don't plan on ever having children so i am very much enjoying my Z4 :D

I think it's great when young people get on and have a nice car so early in life :) So much comes to us when we are getting too old to enjoy it!

I borrowed £10K from BMW to buy the car and part ex-ed for the rest. Paid off now and I'm in no hurry to borrow/spend savings of £20k to replace it with something anywhere near as good.

£39K Cash four years ago minus £9K for Z3 at 43 years.

A new Z4 to my spec is hitting £47K. Too much........ I think....... or do I?

Sp3ctre, agreed im sure some will see this as a sensitive subject and im glad people are not getting offended.

It isn't really about the topic title, I dont want to know each and everyones payment plans. More that i could never have justified spending 20k on anything until i had my future secure but some seem to be dandy with that.

It seems that most of you have got the gist of what im getting at.......

I wondered how many peoples attitudes was 'i want it now'....even if thats not the best financial decision. This to me seems quite a reflection on spending culture in this country in general.

As i said, for me it was priority 1- House, priority 2 - Savings.......LAST priority - nice car.

Is it just that if you have 20k (Example) these days you know your still a way of buying a nice house and may aswell buy a Z4 while you can even though its detrimental to your finances?? Its as most people will know the last suggestion a financial advisor will give you!!

Maybe im just a bit too restrained in my thinking and not 'i could die tommorow' enough :D

hey I was stupid - I got the house first and three months after the house I got the Zee - really must get my priorities right next time round

Have always paid cash for my cars, started small and worked myself up. I bought my 07 2.5Si Z4 in May this year for £16.5K from a dealer. The values holding up well and I also have my Ducati to play with, life is good. :D

Priority

1- Nice House 2 - Nice motorbike 3 - Nice car(s)!!

Cash the last 2 cars (MINI JCW S and Z4 Coupe). 70% cash rest finance on my new Z4. Will be paid off within the year though.

Saved for about 5 years, paid £24k cash.

I waned to get an aluminium briefcase handcuffed to my wrist but the dealer suggested a bankers draft. BORING

i would have went in dressed like a tramp with it in a netto/aldi carrier bag full of money and asked to test drive the thing. when i can afford an aston martin thats what im gna do :D

I paid for a car with cash once! Never again!! Drawing the money out of the bank, seeing how much is there and then having to hand it over to someone else is so hard!! Much easier to give a piece of plastic as payment. It almost seems like a better deal!! :P

Sat at the dealers for an hour trying to get my switch card to go through ... :(

Paid for my most recent car by debit card and have always paid for my cars in cash. A few years ago while living in Naples I had to literally pay in cash. This was before the Euro and there were around 2000 lira to the pound and the car cost about £4000 brand new. I took all the cash to the showroom in a briefcase and it was like something out of a movie when I had to open the case and count the cash!

I wouldnt want to know peoples earnings, and im sure most would not want to disclose it,

But back on topic, I have always been of the mindset of paying for things as I go, and if i want something I save for it, yes, I know its a bit old fashioned these days, but I hate paying interest.
