Just wondering if anyone else on here is diabetic?? i've been type 1 since i was 3! 27 and half now so had the condition quite a while!

My first cousin has Type 1 also. He's early 20s, diagnosed very young. Uses an insulin pump. I went on a Paediatric diabetes study day earlier in the year to learn more about all aspects of it.

I am not but my cat is diabetic poor little fella. 2 injections a day cat diabetes is different to us. It tends to stay at a level for weeks/months witch is nice as we don't have to take blood twice a day!

Type 2 - I was a late developer!

I was just getting the hang of Hba1c when they started on mmol :?

I'm type 2 for the last 4 years, no great problems once the daily tablet strength was sorted. Do I miss proper 'Coke', sugar in tea, strong mints and a few other no-no's - no I don't anymore. Got to add the NHS has been brilliant, twice yearly check-ups at the GP, free sugar testing gear, free blood pressure monitor, retina checks twice a year, a few sessions with a dietician, I don't think I could have been better treated. It was a bit of a scary thing when first told but that was mainly down to not knowing too much about it.
I'm think I've been lucky and I know there's a lot of others far worse off than me.

well ive just been given a new meter that dos all sorts of maths for me but ive had to start cab counting! knightmare! dam my sweet tooth!

The surgery nurse tells me that there are people who just ignore type 2 - Head in the sand ignore it completely - Bonkers or what ?

my nurse was telling me the last time i went about a lad that came to her when he was 12 newly diagnosed with type 1. His mom was really strict with him so, as teenagers do he rebelled! he is 21 now and is completely blind and has now feeling below the waist!

Type 2 for last 20 years ,so far hanging in with Tablets and good control
Don't really think about it as I have had long enough to come to terms ....what is sugar ?? :? long since forgotten just keep taking the tablets :driving:

Leamington Spa Warks! You do read its a postcode lottery, mind you not everything NHS is good locally.

Shame that some people don't take diabetes seriously, it is a bigger killer than cancer and needs to be controlled effectively.

An attack can be quite frightening, an office colleague had one hes left now and one day fell asleep at his desk and we couldn't wake him. Realised he was drifting in and out of conciousness, sweat was pouring off him. Myself and a colleague tried to get some biscuits and a kitkat in him but worried he might choke, tried some sweet cold tea and that just went down the front of him. It took 30mins for the paramedics to arrive and after they injected him was amazed how quickly he recovered and then he gave us an earful for ringing for an ambulance lol.

Tim.

I have to say that I tend to obey the rules (most of the time) I look at all the labels on food packages, don't drink beer very often and keep taking the Metformin 'cos I don't fancy jabbing myself with a needle!

I was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago and I can not get it under control. I feel quite depressed about it really and yet I struggle to take responsibility for it. I was on a weekly GLP1 injection, but that did not seem to help and I continued to put weight on.

I do not find the diabetes clinic very inspiring and I really dislike going there for a number of reasons. All in all I feel pretty s**t about having diabetes.

I am looking to buy an exercise bike and give that a try. IF it was easy loosing weight, we would all be skinny, right?

I fear insulin is my answer
