Hello Zed Heads, and thank you already for the masses of info I’ve been zipping through like I was swimming in treacle!
What a great site, and I’ve already got a long list of mods, detailing and bits and bobs that have all been informed from here.
So, I’ve taken delivery, via a frantic last 5 sec EBay auction, of a broken, entry level Z4. 2.0i 2005, 76k miles in what I think is a really nice deep red. When I say ‘taken delivery’, I mean it was immediately put on a low loader and whisked off to my friends yard in Windsor to be fixed, so I prob won’t see much of it for a few weeks as I’ve just moved to Devon - picture to follow once I get it back.
I see no reason to tell my other half about this purchase until I have to, so keep it schtum for the moment, eh?
I’m just slightly about the special needs end of the mechanical spectrum but if and when I can I’d certainly like to contribute to what’s going on here in the future.
The two biggies to be fixed are:
1. Car won’t start! Previous owner quite happily drove to her local garage because the roof stopped working. While it was there they cleared a couple of fault codes and the car wouldn’t then start. They replaced the cam position sensors but to no avail. They then concluded it was a stretched chain and the timing was out. They packed it all up, gave it back to her and that was the end of that!
2. The roof motor has stopped working! I’m very much hoping Monsieur Bowser123 will be contactable to help me with this as I’d like the motor relocating and if possible fixing too! He looks like THE go to guy for this. I gather I have to post 3 times before I can PM?
MOT Advisories:
A. Brake pipe corroded. Yes it’s hard to believe isn’t it?
B. Suspension Arm Ball Joint (both), slight play. What the best fix solution chaps?
C. Both lower arm rear bushes weak. Is it straight to the Power flex bushes, as they seem very expensive (without having the car here to x-reference exact parts)?
