Hows Everyone getting on cleaning their Z in the Sun?

As mine is black, not at all. 2 seconds out of the garage and I could cook a fried egg on the bonnet. Once I get the opportunity i.e. a few clouds, I shall be using your guide.

Now there has to be something wrong with the last sentence. I'm wishing for clouds

Surely you should never clean the Z in the sun :poke:

Lol yep make sure you have some cover! Once made the mistake of apply some wax when it was 25c outside! Took four hours to get it off after it had baked onto the car!

Because it is light so late I have washed in the evening then polished and waxed first thing in the morning a few times lately. But I am fortunate enough to have a garage to keep it in overnight.

I washed mine half in the sun and half in the shade on Saturday before the Sunday leg of the Lakes meet. As long as you continually hose the car down to keep it wet it's ok and I got no water spots at all. I then put the gazebo up on the drive and parked the car under that for drying and waxing!

And I thought my tent to paint my calipers was extreme

Good call on keeping the car wet though, I do that as well

Brilliant guide. just what i was looking for.

I was about to start a thread , but was worried of getting flamed, so im glad i spent the time to search.

Only just got my car last weekend, iv never really done a pukka wash routine, but for some reason this car is making me want to .

Thanks Nova

It begs to be clean so you can see all the angles and curves 8)

Washed mine in Scotland last weekend - soft water makes such a difference to the whole process. Loads more soap suds, loads less water spots when drying.

To the original governor I have shown my wife your post "I then put the gazebo up on the drive and parked the car under that for drying and waxing!"
as I bought a pop up gazebo for this very reason this year. She didn't get it then and still doesn't :headbang:

Just purchase a couple if the drying towels Nova recommended in the first post. They are absolutely amazing. Dont know how I managed to dry the car with the old ones now.

thats great to Here!

Spent all morning polishing and waxing the car, just putting tyre shine on to finish and the guys next door doing a neighbour's soffits decide now is the time to start cutting UPVC... I look up, the car is covered in fine white plastic dust :x :headbang: :headbang:

Anyway, on topic. Quite often after polishing and waxing I go for a drive and when I get back road dust has settled on my car in a way that seems to show where I have wiped off the wax. I am thinking that to avoid this I should QD the car after waxing as a final finish - does anyone else do this, and does it work ?

hmm i have never used a QD directly after waxing, although if you are coming back from a drive and there is dust then yes a QD will be ok to use, just ensure its not too aggressive to strip any wax off.

Wow just noticed this thread has had 3395 views! thats great!

Did the same and agree they make such a difference. No more water spots. As for washing the car in soft water, must try boiling a few kettles full of hard water and see if that works. If nothing else it will confirm to the wife the Zed gets more attention than she does  :D

just covered the RS6 in carpro Hydro2.... very, very odd to use, but I got a decent shine... not sure about the claimed up to 3 months durability... but we'll see...
