Dension 300 with prof. sat nav

Worth it? I know the consensus seems to be if you have professional sat nav then the intravee is the best; however, I really like the idea of being able to stick most of my music library on a flash drive and have it in the car. Therefore, I'm on the verge of purchasing the Dension.

Will I regret it?

Thanks :-)

If all you want is music then the Dension should be fine. Intravee has lots of non music related benefits.

I think the Dice or Dension are both OK but as you say, Intravee is head and shoulders the best solution for integration with nav, especially with all its extras.

This is what I gather. However, my iPod is only 16 gig and my music library is much, much bigger.

Why would anyone need more then 16gb music in their car??

The only thing I'd say about the Dension is that it's not intuitive to use at all. That said the one I had (a Gateway 300) was a few years ago and the software may have moved on since then.

If I was buying again and not taking an Intravee I'd buy a Dice unit.

Convenience?

Just had a look through the Intravee manual. It looks quite complicated!

its an interesting question, i dont have satnav, and am going for the dension to be fitted on monday ....

i did post on here for opinions and it seems if you have a sat nav, then you do have wider options... if the dension does what it says on the box - music streaming, hands free phone, using the display and controls of the Zed, then for the money, it seems a good buy (lots of caveats ...)

hopefully i will tell you all on Tuesday how wonderful it is....

You guys have me debating on whether to cancel the Dension install and go with the Intravee. Does anyone know what the Dension Gateway 300 looks like on the prof. nav screen? Is it just a single line of text that scrolls?

It's a choice between being able to use USB storage devices as well as my iPod, vs only being able to use my iPod, which is only 16 gig, albeit with a much better user interface.

Also, would the installation of either in place of my cd changer interfere with my factory Bluetooth that's already installed?

Thanks :-)

I've not seen the Dension in operation, but I didn't personally find the Intravee all that great, so it can't be much worse.

What was it about it that you didn't like?

To me, though you'll never find anyone else on here to agree, it was clunky and slow to use, and didn't sort by genre (which is how I play my music).

Why just not use the iPod/iPhone interface instead of the intravee?

I only had the Intravee in my last car. A proper iPhone interface would be brilliant.

Do you have a link to this interface you mention? I couldn't find much about it when I looked earlier, such as its features, how you install it, which one for which model car, radio, etc.

This is all so gosh darn confusing!

Thanks

You need to be clear about what an Intravee is and is not.

The Intravee itself is simply a gateway that translates the BMW iBus signals to Alpine AiNet allowing you to connect compatible Alpine devices in. Most of us use an Alpine KCA-420i iPod adapter. It's this Alpine unit that you connect your iPod or iPhone to.

If you want to use different media types, iPod plus USB etc then most likely it's not for you. You can add a switch and multiple Alpine devices but it would be a pain in the arse to fit it all into the car

I've not seen a Dice or Dension integrated into a car with Nav, anyone?
