Defo getting a M Coupe now..!!

Yep. It's the black one at AMS.

It is due a service now, just as it turns 7 years old in January. Car seemed fine but was not clean and hadn't been prepped for sale. Will have a word with them on Monday when they re-open.

H.

If it's the carbon black one then it's had the running in service and two others, one at 6410 and the other at 17849. The second was quite low mileage so guess was time based. The third could have been oil or I suspect inspection one a bit early. So which ever it's had it will need the other next at 27k guessing oil which means inspection 2 around 40k which ties up with most others.

So in reality it could take 10 years for insp 2 to come around ?

Yep, Inspections aren't time based, so technically could take longer than 10 years if the car hasn't had the use.

That said, I've just had an Inspection II carried out on mine at just 30k mileage, mainly for peace of mind.

Hmm.

Dont think i like the idea of clearances not being checked for 10 yrs +.....

I wonder what services have actually been done to the car..?

The clearances can't change if the car is not used, hence why it's a mileage based check.

Yea..

But oil condition and engine wear is accelerated if the car is always in the cold cycle of low mileage, the water cant be evaporated out of the engine..
The clearances are not just checked to make sure the shim hasnt worn... The clearances on the S54 can actually get tighter over time.

I don't believe there would be many if any of these cars out there that are doing < 10 miles a day on a daily basis. The low mileage ones will be like mine, stuck in a garage not being used and when that are used get warmed up properly for decent runs. I do 1,500 miles a year so on that mine would get the shims checked every 20 years or so. Of course I'm not going to wait this length of time, but as my oil gets changed before it's even dirty and there is no sings of any mayo I don't see it as a problem.

Like all these things though peoples views are different.

I would not buy as car that had been sprayed...even if i know why...it will cause doubt in the buyers minds when you come to sell it..

Unless - you get a bargain and plan to keep it for a number of years..

Yea i get ya..

When would the plugs and air filter get changed then ?

Air filters are pennies so would change more often, but same logic applies if it's sitting there not sucking in air it will remain clean. Plugs again some logic.

My Gruppe M will be going on in the spring, need to find out how often the filter need to be cleaned.

You check all your cars with a paint meter before buying then?

I take it you have never tried to remove a plug thats been in an engine for 10 years ?

That's crazy, loads of people get front end re sprays due to stone chips or minor scratches.

I would remove every couple of years to check/clean as it's an easy job, but see no point in replacing unless there is an issue, which probably means a bigger issue elsewhere.

Seriously don't understand the logic.

I'd much rather buy a cherished example with a freshly sprayed bumper, than a car with bumper rash from stone chips. Shows the owner is prepared to spend £££ on upkeep of the car.

I'm considering getting my bumper done next year at BMW to keep mine looking pristine. Surely that's more attractive to a future buyer?
