Well this is all very useful and new to me, thanks folks - does the polish not protect then?
I use AutoGlym Super Resin Polish because it's so easy to apply and looks effective.
I use Meguire's Wax (but haven't applied it yet to the ///M).
Think sammyz must have had a sealant or something applied to the ///M as the paintwork looks excellent.
So what do you suggest for protection and then regular application?

Firstly find nearest bin,
Introduce the AUTO - we fill our product with Calicum carbonate as it liquid weight not volume it's sold by and hence leaves the white marks and ruins rubbed -GLYM to it terrible terrible stuff

It's a polish mate, this is purely designed to shine
People often mistake polish as wax and visa versa

I'd wash car/ clay bar it, this'll get rid of tar and contaminants/ dry it/ then use Maguiars gloss polish, it's on wipe and then buff panel instantly
This will give deep glossy wet look/
Then use Maguiars ultimate wax
This will seal in the clean paintwork and the polish and give it a mild protection and bead water
If in doubt you can later the wax:)

See it as the clay bar is rubbing down wood
The polish as undercoat
The wax as the gloss:)

The ceramic sealant, mine has had all this done if look for my post on here
But if going to do that, get a detailer to give car a machine polish then let's say a coat of polish, then two of the ceramic sealant beit Cquartz or Gtechniq then two of exo coating

Then for next 4/5/7 years you only ever need to wash n dry car :)

SRP has it's place as an AIO (All In One) product. For the Gen Pop it's fine, as it does add a smidge of protection, but should be followed up by EGP (Extra Gloss Protection, if we're sticking with Halfrauds best!!).

On the next part, afraid I disagree, chap. Claying tar off a car is the worst source of marring. Tar removers and fall out removers, i.e. touchless products and processes, should be used before you go near the paint with a contact product. Additionally, the Meguiars product you mentioned is an AIO. It states it "Restores valuable oils to feed and nourish the surface.", so is basically filling again.

You're correct that polish creates the shine and wax (for the most part) adds protection, but incorrect that it should be layered. Rarely can you see the wax add much, and if it does, it's likely to offset looks with longevity.

However, all the above is irrelevant if the OP needs scratch resistance. As you've correctly stated, either a decent hobbyist on the forum or a known detailer (where are you based OP?) can apply CQuartz UK, Crystal Serum (or black series if adding Exo too as most do), Gyeon etc.

(D4, all the above said as hoping to be helpful to you in the future, rather than tearing apart you post  )
Don't be daft buddy
You weren't rude in any form
Different views and prospectives are always good in my book:)

I'd say get it detailed:)

Hi Paul,
I have cover for my car and i have to say that doesn't look the best fit

Hi Mary Poppins - hope to catch up at the National.

The fit was said to be one which allows air to circulate (?) I went for one that wasn't a tailored fit to allow this (having read the blurb). We shall see if I've made the right decision - especially when the wind increases

I'm guessing that it's a good fit Taz :( This is what I'm worried about - I'll keep a close eye on things. :?

Paul,pm John but i am sure that he had it detailed by one of the best in the country,Mark at Off your marks, who is associated /accredited with the bmw carclub, and various product makers,so could very well have swissvax stuff or similar on it

Paul i bought mine from Specialized Covers, tailored to fit £250.00 breathable etc etc it really is brilliant. Only issue i have is removing it, depending how i do it i always end up with a tight corner. I have a couple of small marks on the four corners of the car accumulated over the last 3 plus year but nothing that hasn't polished out easily, no other marks and you have seen the car it still looks as good as the day i bought it.
The only issue i have is when grit lodges at the base of the cover from heavy rain bouncing up of the drive. I always try and brush it off before removing the cover as it could cause some damage. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what cover, polish, cleaning method etc you use the car will still get scratched. You can only minimize the risk. Sorry but what are you driving now? Have you changed your car again?

May not make the National  , will probably know later on this week but if i dont see you i hope you and the guys have a great weekend even if the weather is not looking that great.

That sounds a great cover and I'll watch out for what you mention re the bottom of the cover before it's taken off.

I'm bringing sammyz's red ///M to the National but I've kept my 3.0si for the time being whilst I decide if the ///M is the right Zed for me and Steph. (The ///M is such a different Zed, I'm having to adapt my driving style - it really is fabulous and is growing on me - we shall see).

Glad to hear you're keeping your black Zed in nice condition - it really is a fabulous example - hope you can make it over the weekend

Craig its doubtful. I am a punctual guy so i would like to leave it till the last minute. If i am not there for 10 then i will not be coming if that is ok with you. I really want to be there so i dont want to dismiss if at this stage. If that's not acceptable then i will have to say i wont be there.

Paul.

i have a very similar cover, but mine is only a 2 layer, as its intermediate/ indoor
my zed is garaged anyway, but its always on the car, i have similar fit issues with the mirrors, and mine is a bit longer front and rear, but all in all they are great.

i need my front bumper spraying as stonechips are a mess, so i no polish as its going for paint in 2 weeks time :)
