Decisions... decisions!

Don’t get an S5 cab. I had one for three years and whilst it was a good car, it was very dull and functional. Even in sepang blue it never quite felt special enough for what it was supposed to be.

This is exactly the type of spec Cobra I'd want, including the colour (probably an LS3 or stroker engine though):

I really do want a V8. As a petrolhead there is really nothing comes close. As the Americans say "you can't beat cubes"

I'm too old to have left hand drive. Also it's got to fit in my garage (with the Z4).

That's easy then, surely a Mustang GT if it fits in the garge, or an E92 M3! Or if you don't mind an Auto maybe an AMG of some sort?

Looked at them. Again the 5 litres (RHD) are silly money and 50 year old technology. I may have given the impression I'm well off; I'm not!! :(

Fair enough, but I think they aren't 50 year old technology. They may use a pushrod V8 but they make over 400bhp as standard - 5 litre Mustangs in the 60s didn't produce anything like that! And the "RHD" generation does have IRS.

But you're right, they aren't cheap. Maybe because I don't think too many were sold in the UK. I'd still love to run one as a daily - if I actually went anywhere.

Not sure you need a baseball cap for an E92 - I thought that was more hot-hatch headgear!

In your position two "fun" cars come to my mind Triumph Stag or TR4.
TR4 yes (although I would prefer a TR6). Stag? Nah. BL not triumph and we all know the quality of BL cars. Also getting into "classic" cars again which seems to be a licence to print money. I blame eBay. I remember when old cars were just that; old. Now it seems anything over 20 years old is a "classic" so add 200% to the asking price. Not all cars become classics. Also how many barns do we have in this country because there are an awful lot of "barn finds" around. Does having a "barn" make your memory fade. IE "oh yes I forgot I had that pile of rusting crap in my barn; give me 40 grand for it"? :P

One enduring memory I have is being in a multi-storey car park a couple of years ago (Leeds city centre). I was on the 7th floor and I heard this noise coming up the floors. I had to wait to see what is was. It was a modern 5L Mustang. It was probably the sexiest noise I've ever heard.

Actually that's not a bad shout for the money

Oh come on, now you're just being silly :P

No, its just something different and I think they will rise up in value as the 3000 are now dumb ass money and so far out of reach of mere mortals :D

No, but I'd want a roof and a manual gearbox!

There are two "classic" cars I would sell my house to buy:

1972 Toyota Celica RA23 (Cos it was our family car growing up)

Sunbeam Tiger. (the most beautiful car ever made IMO; with a V8).

I want a cab (it's for the three days a year it's not raining). Not sure what the "selshift" is. If it's double clutch and works, not too bothered

I bought an MX-5 as my second fun car last year and I love it. Also, as you seem interested in having something different or a bit of a project you can always go the Rocketeer V6 or BBR route to add more performance and differentiate it from the rest:
