Debadged

Poor OP. If he’s removed the Z badge from his German prowler because of … honestly I have no idea … wait until he learns BMW was a Nazi war machine that bombed England. I reckon he’ll torch his German prowler.

I knew that about BMW already. This is the post war BMW.
I don't live in England either, so the past bombing doesn't concern me.
I am citizen of two countries that were invaded by the English and descendant of another that was raped & pillaged as well.

I harbour no grudges. I just deal with the here & now.
BTW, the swastika was/is an Indian / Hindu symbol which was appropriated by the Nazis for some reason as was the term Aryan. However, because of the symbolism, one does not go wearing / displaying it these days.

No chance of torching the car because times have moved on. The Nazis are now in the Kremlin.

Anyway, there were some kids checking out the car the other day. They couldn't for the life of them figure out what it was. Especially as there was an electrical cable going into the bonnet.

As far as I am aware (correct me if I am wrong continental colleagues) in Europe, especially Germany, wealthy people (owners, employers, directors etc) would order their cars de-badged because they did not their employees and others to know what expensive cars they were driving.

So they were dumbing it down or creating a sense of equality in a weird way.
As opposed to, for example, putting an M badge on a non M car.

I wouldn't debadge. Something I have seen for decades now is that the only bmw's that de-badge around here are the ones trying to hide the fact that they have the low models of a series (and in the 90's you'd probably find an "M" sticker on it). As a person who came from Hondas its like seeing a DOHC VTEC sticker on a low model beater civic. To me, its even worse.

Nope, I removed the badges from my 3litre & also my 2litre because they look better without them

My Z is debadged because I don't like the particular badges it came with. If the "Z4" on the back was in a better font and black I might have kept it. I may rebadge with something more to my taste one day.

My Ford Focus 1.0 has just debadged itself of the "Ecoboost" label, found it hanging off when I went to open the boot this week.

Do what you like

The Z stands for: Zukunft

Which is German for Future.
Cool story 8)

I wouldn't worry about the Z, one country has not the power to appropriate our alphabet!

Great Story 8) never thought to check that!!

‘Here and now’, ‘past doesn’t concern me’, right, ignorance is bliss.

It's not a matter of "ignorance is bliss".
It's a matter of nations do stuff that is not nice. Things change, life moves on.
If it changes for the positive then well and good. Concentrate on what they are doing now rather than the past.

If i based it in this day and age on BMW's past then i would not have bought a BMW, nevermind owning 2 at this same time plus a previous one as well.

The only change I've made to the car is to remove the 'Z4', because the car as a whole and the tail especially look less cluttered without it.

As do the wings!
Fair comment.
For the wings, with all their clutter, I was afraid of removing too much and making the car look 'de-badged'. 8)

What is a bad Z meant to mean?

It’s the Russia connection.
Rob

Thanks - just googled it. As a Brit living in Slovenia and not speaking Slovene I don’t watch any TV outside of Netflix etc so don’t watch or read ANY news at all…gotta tell you, ignorance really is bliss…
