Dealers saying they take 5 mins to sell?

I have spoken to three BMW dealers on the phone about the cars below. Each one has said that the Z4M is an easy sell, hangs around for a short time on the forcourt and as a result there is little discounting to be done. One offered a couple of hundred off and nothing more (17k for an 06 with 40k on)

Am i misisng something, I thought 3.2 litre of fuel drinking BMW would be an easy discount and dealers would take a sensible offer, but I seem to be very wrong?

The third one seems the best, and second does not have heated seats.

Good ones are expensive, there are few good ones about though and a lot are starting to look rather poor.

Think you have a better chance getting a good one from forum members rather than dealers.

Looking at the leaves on the trees they have been around for at least a month or two.
The Lincoln one has been there at least a month.

The Silver Grey "had just come in" apparently.

It is finding a good one that is the trouble so if anybody knows of a Roadster.....

Rubbish, I've been watching the BMW site for a couple of months and they rarely go quickly. There are a couple of blue roadsters for a little less than those you're looking at, the one with red leather has questionable service history, took the dealer two days to email me with an answer after I queried that. No stamped oil services, just almost yearly inspections with around 22k between them. Apparently the owner did the oil services himself but the service book doesn't show it.

The other one in Glasgow was reasonable after I negotiated off considerably more than a couple of hundred... but in the end I still thought a better deal could be had privately if you find an enthusiast owner who looks after their car. Plus I hate pushy dealers who keep saying, "if I go to my manager to get this price, will you put down a deposit right now?" NO! Get me a price and I'll compare it to others and get back to you when I've thought about it :x

This. You're far better looking at a car privately if you can, finding an enthusiast. Doesn't mean you'll find a perfect car of course; but it'll be a lot better in the majority of cases.

I think you are right on the enthusiast bit. I think I will just have to wait for the right car to come along, although it has taken me six months to decide what to buy.

If nothing comes along I may just slip and go towards a Boxster S which is the back up plan and there are loads of them, almost too common.

Dealers get a lot more receptive to offers nearer to the end of the month. I had a main dealer ring me three times about a car at end of August, but I hadn't sold my Z3M so couldn't commit.

Definitely sales talk. Good ones will always sell, but not quickly, and especially not quickly in October.

I agree that it whiffs of dealer-bull, I like to deal with genuine private sellers and research the car to bits but I can see the attraction of a total deal when you are shelling out big wedge. A decent PX price, maybe for a car that itself could be difficult to sell, cheap finance and a good warranty can be attractive at this level.

Complete bullshit.,
You've only got to look how much prices have softened in the last 6 months to realise the Z4m is a tricky and mostly unwanted car
Dealers wouldn't be dropping prices at the rate they are if that was true, laws of supply and demand and all that

I agree with your theory, but the fact is several forum members are looking for a MINT, well speced Z4M with A1 history and can't find one. On another thread I predicted (and was doofed for it  ) top examples of all Zed models would ride out the price crash once the masses unloaded indifferent examples, and I stand by it. Dealers with good examples have huge margins on these cars at the moment and they can afford to wait.

I am thinking of selling mine (2008, silver roadster, Sat Nav, Loudspeaker options, 32k miles). Let me know if your interested and I will let you have more details.

Hark,

Your too quick to jump to conclusions. I have been a long time lurker thinking of selling my car. I would rather it went to a good home. I am not forcing this on anyone and people are free to ignore if they wish.

A flawless example:

Due to a recent imminent change to my personal circumstances Im looking to sell Ruby. It pays to travel to get the right car and this is by far the best Z4M for sale right now. The paintwork is like glass and doesn't have any swirls or scratches. Stunning.

Without trying to shoulder in on a thread. I said that was your first post. It was your first post. What conclusion was incorrect? Whether you have lurked for the last 10 years, taking useful tips when needed or whether you just joined today doesn't change the fact that the first thing you posted was a for sale post. If you've lurked and used some of the great information on this site, maybe your first post might have been 'thanks' or 'really useful cheers'.

Who knows... I don't think, considering the recent discussion about this very subject, that my smiley choice was inappropriate either. :fuelfire:
