There's a guy who just bought a Swiss Z8 in the UK and it wasn't cheap and its a LHD in a RHD country.

People buy imports all the time. Mustangs are popular in the UK to be shipped over for one. I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around.

We're talking about a cooking Z4 of which there are many thousands on the roads, not a highly collectable model like a Z8 or a Mustang which wasn't available in RHD.

If you were in the market for say a £5k Z4, would you consider a LHD car?

Price seems high to me. Bear in mind I only have interest in coupes so I've only been following prices on those. Seems to me a non-functioning top should significantly impact value. The cause is unknown and may be a costly repair. Just because you may be able to fix it on the cheap doesn't mean most buyers can. If the repair was cheap the seller would have already had the work completed.

Agreed, their claim of "supply chain issues" while believable just seems sketchy. Either they haven't looked very hard for the parts or they are only willing to buy directly from BMW (in which case I would believe them).

I’ve done a lot of driving in the US (in US cars) & through Europe with my RHD car (not the Zed)

Personally I’d be considering pricing up an import if you can get past sitting ‘on the wrong side’

I reckon you could get away with it on American Roads, well mainly the highways & interstate roads, maybe if your driving country …

But I must admit to having zero experience in what the practicalities are around this - insurance, road tax etc

But it does seem strange to me that you’d be paying essentially $6000 more for a native car than an imported one if everything else equals out & you felt comfortable driving it

But I would preface what I’m saying by - you have to feel happy driving it & if you couldn’t drive a RHD then ignore my entire post

I don’t think importing a UK car into the USA is as easy as doing it the other way around, especially if you live in California as you’ll need to fit all the emissions kit that they require.

He's actually partially correct insofar as the G29 M40i is offered in a higher state of tune in the US thanks to stricter EU WLTP emissions regulations.

Of course, that only applies to the newest models not the older cars being discussed in this thread.

I've got a really great business idea. I'm going to start importing Z4s to the USA and the EU because they're so much cheaper in the UK.
