De - Badging

i also removed the Z4 from the rear, miles better and much cleaner looking...

The boot Z4 badge is gone on mine but I still have the 3.0si on the wing - it put's boy racers in their pimped Citroen Saxos off racing me at the lights. The only Zeds I see with the wing badges removed tend to be the smaller engined versions...

So how can you tell....?

2.0's have only one exhaust pipe

other telltale signs are black grill instead of chrome on vertical slats and headlight inners are again black on 2.5si and below

Not much point in de badging then if all these other tell tale signs give the game away UNLESS of course you change the grills, lights etc but then again not many do that on this site do they....

Those that know the car (series) can spot the differences easy enough; for those that don't, they can't/don't appreciate the differences between the different versions anyway. I like the look of a car which is not cluttered, appreciate the increased ease of washing/waxing, and don't mind if the general public really doesn't know what it is.

De badging...I m afraid its reminiscent of a budget respray where no one could be bothered to re badge after... no offence to the de badgers

Our OEM spray reminds me of a budget respray with all of the orange peel texture, lol.

I removed the 3.0si on the wings and the Z4 on the boot too for all the same reasons.....just cleaner looking and easier to maintain when polishing. Like others have said...just how many emblems does ONE car really need ?? :P

Unless, like me, you have a black zed 3.0si and swapped out the graphite grille for black ones... much better looking IMO. I removed the engine designation from the sides, but seeing as how the coupe only came in two flavors – 3.0si and the almighty M – those who "know," know. Now, if I had an M coupe (which I am always on the passive lookout for), I'd keep the M on the wings but lose it on the rump.

So far as the "telltale sign of a cheap respray," I don't doubt it; BUT I don't buy it either, as you can often order cars debadged from the factory. In fact, if I drove a 2009, the first thing I'd remove its its horribly placed rear deck badge.

Cheers.

I took the Z4 badge off the rear of my Coupe when I fitted the rear carbon diffuser. It just seemed to highlight that the Z4 badge looked an afterthought!

Breaker, I like your diffuser, is this an oem or aftermarket item? Any problems fitting?
Disregard, I found your thread on fitting your diffuser.

just asked my friend about de-badging, she thinks it looks better without so i may take the plunge

How do the badges come off. Pardon the dafty question. I'm referring to the BMW ones... Front, Back, Sides @ Steering wheel?!

AR

Use dental floss - preferably on a warm day or gently warm the badges with a hair dryer and then place the floss behind the badge and with a sawing motion cut through the adhesive. They come of very easily and when the badge is off clean up the residue with something like WD40 or alcohol based surgical wipes. Once the residue is cleaned off wash over and re-polish.

Front is bolted on, remove the kidney grills to gain access to the nuts. 8 -10 mm can't remember which.
Rear is a push fit into rubber grommets.
Sides are just double sided tape.
Steering wheels clips into the Airbag somehow. cj10 removed his when changing to carbon badges others have myself included have just stuck the replacement straight over the existing one.

The steering wheel is a pressed alloy bdge, presumably very lightweight. It is fastened on with metal clips that go inside the airbag housing and can only be removed by cutting it to bits and trimming the clips back. I assume this is so that in a deployment it stays fixed to the cover and not flying around.

Of course if you apply an aftermarket badge and the airbag deploys expect a 200mph badge in the face :)

I'd also caution tampering with it unless you have the battery disconnected as it would be a shame to get the pliers and screwdriver embedded.

Did it stop me changing badges - 'no' but I did it knowingly.
