DCT fluid change ? Yes / No ?

Will be dropping my recently acquired 70k covered 35is for a onceover at trusted indy & of course  a switch of oil to my favoured Millers 5w30
Now ive had VW DSG cars that required a change of fluid to the double clutch gearbox every 40k which i can understand is good maintenance , Bmw however state their DCT fluid is "lifetime" have any forum owners had their DCT fluid changed ?
This is purely precautionary , the box is operating faultlessly :driving:

I will say I would take the lifetime idea with a pinch of salt I changed the engine gearbox and back axle oils on blue last year, and both needed attention one being dirty the other being low, nothing is lifetime least of all anything mechanical is my observed opinion.

In an E89 with DCT?

Yes, because, as yours probably will, the sump plate was weeping. :)

I don't think mine is weeping Buster but that's only if i believe Bmw's own warranty inspection done just a few weeks ago  id rather my own guy gave it a going over & at same time have the DCT fluid changed as a matter of pre-emptive maintenance , just wondered if anyone else was or had done the same

Yes - why were you puzzled?

Because road warrior's signature doesn't indicate that he has one.

Hey Mr Wilks, while I was searching for service components for my 35i DCT, I came across this horror story for the DCT oil, so proceed with caution! Though the information in the post may be of some use to you.

Obviously no fluid lasts a lifetime in a gearbox, this is especially true when it comes to DCT/DSG/Auto type boxes. You only have to look back to that old episode of Wheeler Dealers with the Porsche Boxster Auto for a great example of what difference a fluid/filter change can make.

The problem with these type of boxes is its not a quick in and out of the fluid like a manual. The procedure has to be followed exactly and even then you can be really unlucky and a bit of crap gets dislodged as part of the oil change and blocks a oil channel etc.

If it was me I would probably go for it, but only if I was sure the chosen indie really knows what they're doing with it. However its a bit of a balancing act really. 70K near 10 year old oil vs the possibility of it not being done right or if I'm really unlucky some crap being dislodged.

Hmmm :? Does appear like poking a, wasps nest with a short stick
It's performing faultless so after reading the above possibly not worth dabbling.
My indy is ex Bmw master tech so I shall follow his advice on this occasion.

Hi , I know someone in BMW who advised me that BMW consider a lifetime as 100K my 35is is going in for DCT oil next week with 40 k on

Too be honest and not wanting to sound too callous to the guy who buys it off you, for the length of time/mileage the car will likely be in your possession I'd probably leave it if I was you. For folks who have a tendency to buy a car and keep it for years and years then its probably worth risking changing it.

You really can be damned if you do, damned if you don't with this one if your unlucky.

No oil is lifetime.

BMW were notorious for saying this then have all the ZF gearboxes blow up,great for BMW parts department.I think ESS recommend every 40k,which i think is excessive but certainly every 60k should be adequate, realistically 2 oil changes in the life of the car is still great.

I have done a DCT oil change on a E92 M3,the pan was porous and leaking and its not a bad job at all. You do have to use diag machine to monitor temps in the gearbox but apart fro that its no different to anything else.

Likes been said,is it worth it in your scenario ?

Is it worth doing for something that you will get rid of in 6 months

Precisely :D they may not stay long but they do get well looked after
I'll keep a look out for the advert (this time). I really should have bought that car instead of my 35i.

I'm going to take my car here to get it done:

https://www.planetgearsuk.com

They've got a good rep amongst dealers here in Peterborough.
