No fogs on mine, but have proper DRL's in the main headlight units which switch off once side or dipped are switched on.

Be safe, be seen, be legal and not look like a chav with fogs on

I'm planning on converting my fogs to DRL's as I never use them. I am still trying to find a way to bypass the "faulty light Warning" though. If anyone has any suggestions.......

My fogs are not monitored. Unplug one of yours and check.

Hmmmm interesting. are you on the facelift or pre facelift?

Yes it's great being in a low car like the Z3 with some dick with their fogs blazing away behind and it's always at night, so I just put the rear fogs on just so they don't feel left out :) and I can join the dick club.

Tim.

Another vote for cooling Ducts. :P

What are DRL's :?

Edit: Found it........... Day Time Running Lights. (Another Chav thing stated by Volvo)

Scoba Steve's are not illegal, as they are no different from the DRL's now fitted on new Mini's. I have just fitted similar to my daughters black mini as I wasn't comfortable with her having a black car and forgetting to out her lights on come dusk, having recently passed her test.

The difference between DRL's and fog lights 'apparently' is that DRL's do not project a beam forward of the vehicle and therefore will not blind/dazzle others in good visibility, whereas Fog lights can do. I believe it is on this basis that the Police can stop you for using Fogs during the day, or in good visibility.

I do sometimes use the fog/driving lights early on Sunday Mornings if I am leading a group of Zeds on a 'progressive' run as I want to make sure I am seen approaching any junctions, etc. It is also permitted for a number of vehicles in a convoy to use lights to indicate that they are travelling together.

Correctly adjusted fogs should never dazzle, they emit a flat, wide beam which is designed to illuminate the roadside edges. Some of these DRL's however are excessively bright, even at night, and as they have no predefined beam, can be extremely dazzling.

Facelift. Currently have blanking plates fitted with fogs removed along with their fuse. Relay still present and indicator on dash when fogs turned on. No bulb warning though.

You will find that factory fitted DRL's reduce brightness whenever the headlights are turned on. Have you ever noticed an Audi indicating ? The DRL nearest the indicator goes off, so as not to disguise the turn signal.

Retro-fit DRL's do not do this as they usually just have one permanent feed and not a switched feed sensor.

Yes, they are ALL supposed to do that, but only when the indicator is combined in the same housing, so that it can be seen, however I've seen a lot of Vauxhalls and Nissans where this does not happen.

It's fogs in the wet that piss me off! Fogs during the day and you're just a dick. Fogs in the wet and the directional angle of the beam reflects directly off of the road I to your eyes. It isn't foggy so don't use your fogs!!!

This is a massive hate of mine. DRL's fine but fogs why??!?!! I know I shouldn't but sometimes if I see someone coming towards me with fogs on during the day, I'll just shove all my lights on, full beam and all. "Well I want to be seen".

I wouldn't do this at night at the risk of causing an accident but god do I want to some times.

I usually stick the rear fogs on if someone behind me has theirs on.

My daughter (who passed her test yesterday) has just driven off up the road in a black car at 10:30 pm without putting her lights on - just as predicted ! :headbang:
- Thank God I fitted DRLs before we gave her the car.

I Managed to phone her and tell her, but those two minutes could have been disaterous.

F*ck me, so do you really think it is OK to unleash someone in a car onto the roads we have to use/share who apparently cannot tell day from night but can accept an incoming call on their 'phone while trying to "drive" at night with no lights?! I hope your daughter never travels far! (well not far enough to get anywhere near where I live)!

How do they pass the driving test? Or can they do that using an app now! :headbang:

Don't you have buses and trains down your way for people who don't give a sh*t/haven't got a clue? Or don't even know the difference!

Every day is a school day - I didn't think Audis had indicators, but now I realise they don't get used because they need to keep the DRLs on, especially as they are usually no more than 3 feet from your rear bumper! Well until the road ahead is clear, then the TDi A3s seem to go backwards - must be a space/continuum thing!

My experience also suggests that while Vauxhalls and Nissans may have indicators, the users (certainly not drivers!) aren't aware of this feature!

Anyway on the topic of fog-lights I think they must be programmed to stay on until reset at a service on any Pious, Migraine, or similar POS. :banghead:

I have no problem with fog lights at day in lieu of DRL's if you don't have them. They're not dazzling and help the car be seen.
However, fog lights at night :headbang: :headbang: :x . For some reason it seems that NZ drivers have been mired in a technological backwater for so long that when they get a vehicle with the bonus of fog lights it is seen as absolutely obligatory to drive with them at night - especially if it is an SUV where the fog lights are perfectly in line with your rear view mirror (thank god for auto dimming mirrors...).
I believe it is illegal to drive with them at night here (unless foggy obviiously) but I've never heard of anyone being ticketed, but the police are not usually bothered with minor things like this, more after speeders, non-seat belt wearers and cellphone users.
Okay, it's not the end of the world, but it's the little things that push our buttons...
