Dashcam position?

Hi all,
Have just bought a Nextbase 312gw dashcam- first one I've had, so all new to me!
I have just had a go at attaching the mount but cant put it behind mirror as the mount touches it and putting it to the side a little, has the casing that goes on back of light/rain sensor gubbins, in view.

Anyone with this cam/mount, where do you place yours??!! Any further along the screen and it becomes a bit of a distraction itself!

Will see about routing the wires another time but would like to use tommorow morning as going on a fairly long drive.

Mine (512GW) is placed about 6 inches away from the mirror, and is almost invisible from my driving position. Although looking at the last photo, it could probably be a little tighter to the mirror if I don't mind fiddling about a bit more with the wiring.

just be careful it you are putting it to the left that you are not covering the light sensor on the back of the mirror .. I put my a119 on the left and then had to move it to the right ( where the fit is bloody tight) as the rear view mirror kept dimming when it shouldnt..

I have the 312GW too and bought one of the stealth mounts that NickDE mentioned. I have it hard wired and tucked behind the mirror and you can’t really see it from the driver seat. Managed to avoid the light sensor too. Will post pics later.

Thanks for replies, folks.

I wasn't aware you could get a "stealth" fitting but will need to as it protrudes too much with standard mount.

Edit to ask :

Can you still remove the dash cam OK with this new mount!?

Yup. You can still remove it and take advantage of the magnetic mount. I found that I needed a splodge of hot glue just to lock the ball into the stealth mount to hold the position.

This is how I hid mine from view as much as possible (on the drivers' side so that I can press buttons and so it doesn't hide the light sensor on the left hand side of the mirror). For the most part it was "install and forget".
