It drives like it’s on 50k, the seat bolsters look like it’s on 50k, paint looks a lot less miles than it is AND it’s had the bearing shells changed. I can throw in a brand new ZHP gear knob that you can sell and a litre of oil. It’s a fucking steal man 😁
 
I've been through the paperwork on my Lancer... just worked out that in 80k miles over 18 years I have no evidence at all that the coils or dampers have ever been replaced... maybe the level of luxury my missus requires can be achieved through the radical "do maintenance" approach instead of upgrading the vehicle? I'm just so used to it, and so used to driving old cars, that the fact that the body roll is so bad that the wing mirrors touch the road on sharp corners has never really bothered me, but 6 months of Z4 ownership and it has started to!
 
Looking for a potential new daily and I have found a Subaru for sale, 3L 6 cylinder, 2005.

Vendor says "Engine has done around 1500 miles since the complete rebuild and seems to still be burning oil.
It may well be that putting a few more thousand miles on the engine beds the rings in and reduces the oil consumption but it fouled the plug on cylinder 6 while my wife was driving on the motorway,the EML came on showing misfire on cylinder 6 and she is now refusing to drive the car anymore.

Hence it is up for sale.

Now the spark plug has been cleaned up the car again Runs and drives smoothly. Mechanic performed a leak down test showing that compression on all cylinders is good.

When the engine was rebuilt should have had the bores honed at a machine shop to facilitate the bedding in of the fresh piston rings, this step was neglected and as such there was a question as to how long or even if the rings will bed in sufficiently to reduce the oil consumption. My mechanic says it's just a case of putting enough miles on the engine and until the rings are fully bedded in.This may involve cleaning the spark plugs a few times if they continue to become dirty due to fouling. Currently it's only one cylinder number six which has fouled the plug."


It sounds like the car is very well maintained mechanically other than this issue, but bodywork far from ideal.

Any ideas of how much honing might cost, and whether it will be needed or whether it will bed in naturally? What sort of discount would you want for this issue, or would you walk away?
 
I’ve made a few more improvements to my 20 year old daily driver since last posting in this thread, including LED lights all round (with LED-specific headlight projectors), a faster steering rack, quick-release steering wheel with spacer, light-weight wheels, a throttle body with a larger bore and CAI, a switchable exhaust with high-flow manifold, and cill extensions:
